Director of Finance

Rocky View Schools (RVS) invites applications for the leadership position of Director of Finance. Duties will commence as early as June 2025, or as mutually agreed.

The Division

Bordering the City of Calgary to the north, west, and east, Rocky View Schools is Alberta’s fifth largest school division, serving over 29,000 students within 53 schools located in Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere, and Rocky View County.

RVS is situated on the traditional territories of the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta, including the Siksikaitsitapi (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Amskapi Pikuni), the Tsuutina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations (Bearspaw, Chiniki, Goodstoney), and the Rocky View Métis District.

Recognized for innovative and transformative educational practices, RVS offers diverse programs such as French Immersion, faith-based, online, and outreach learning. The division employs over 3,000 staff, has recently opened or modernized several schools, and maintains a strong financial position with an annual budget exceeding $300 million.

The Opportunity

The Director of Finance, reporting to the Associate Superintendent of Business and Operations, will oversee financial procedures and systems, including Payroll, Accounting, Investments, and contracts under $100,000.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the RVS Strategic Plan.
  2. Oversee and evaluate financial operations for efficiency and alignment with divisional priorities.
  3. Supervise the Finance team, ensuring professional growth and cohesive service.
  4. Manage financial statements, cost analyses, and management reports.
  5. Coordinate annual audits and prepare budgets.
  6. Manage short-term investments and financial reporting systems.
  7. Evaluate and recommend improvements to financial procedures and systems.
  8. Oversee grant applications and submissions.
The Candidate

RVS seeks candidates with:

  • A master's degree in business administration, economics, commerce, or related fields.
  • At least 10 years of professional accounting experience, including 5 years in supervisory roles.
  • A Professional Accounting Designation.
  • Proven leadership, supervisory skills, and experience in organizational leadership within education or public sectors.
  • Experience with industry tools to enhance efficiencies and working with government agencies.
  • Experience in budgeting and financial management.

Salary
