Job description

Our client, is a leading Canadian retailer specializing in fitness equipment, with a strong commitment to promoting health, wellness, and accessible fitness solutions. As they continue to experience rapid growth, they are seeking a forward-thinking, execution-focused Director of Finance to lead the financial operations and support next stages of growth.

Responsibilities of the Director of Finance is as follows :

  • Financial Strategy & Planning : Design and execute financial strategies that align with the company’s goals, drive long-term growth, and support major business decisions.
  • Financial Systems & Process Improvement : Improve and streamline financial systems, tools, and workflows to support accuracy, efficiency, and scalability as the company grows.
  • Financial Reporting : Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, providing insights to the Board and executive team.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting : Lead the annual budget process and rolling forecasts, including development of financial models, variance analysis, and scenario planning.
  • Team Leadership : Build, manage, and mentor a high performing finance and accounting team. Identify talent needs and create structure, training, and performance expectations to support excellence.
  • Cash Flow & Risk Management : Monitor short and long-term cash flow and working capital. Identify financial risks and implement mitigation plans to protect business continuity.
  • Cost Optimization : Analyze financial performance to uncover areas of inefficiency or overspending. Recommend and implement strategies to improve profitability across all business functions.
  • Tax Planning : Lead tax strategy and filings, working with external advisors when necessary.

Requirements

  • Experience : 5+ years in financial leadership roles, with proven success in high-growth environments. Experience in inventory-intensive industries such as retail, e-commerce, or manufacturing is strongly preferred.
  • Education : Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred.
  • Technical Skills : Strong proficiency in financial modeling, reporting, budgeting, and planning. Familiarity with ERP systems (ODOO or similar) and financial tools.
  • Leadership : Demonstrated experience building and leading finance teams, implementing process improvements, and creating high accountability cultures.
  • Strategic Thinking : Ability to connect financial insights to broader business strategy. Skilled in identifying opportunities for growth and optimization.
  • Analytical & Communication Skills : Excellent analytical capabilities with the ability to distill complex financial information into actionable insights and communicate effectively across departments.
