Job description

Director of Finance

Our client is seeking a Director of Finance to join their growing organization. This newly created role will work closely with the CFO and provide senior-level oversight to the accounting function, while focusing heavily on financial modelling, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, KPI reporting, and business insights. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on with the numbers and partnering with leadership, without being tied to the day-to-day transactional accounting.

The organization is also pursuing further acquisitions, giving this role the opportunity to play an important part in acquisition integration, evolving financial reporting processes, and ultimately supporting consolidated reporting as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide senior-level financial oversight and act as a key resource to the CFO and accounting team.
  • Review monthly financial reporting and month-end workbooks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Provide guidance to the accounting team on complex accounting matters and one-off issues.
  • Lead the year-end process and coordinate with external accountants and advisors.
  • Prepare and maintain financial models to support business planning, decision-making, and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing monthly forecasting.
  • Perform monthly variance analysis and provide explanations and insights into financial performance.
  • Develop and monitor financial KPIs and provide analysis to management.
  • Prepare quarterly financial reporting packages and support bank reporting requirements.
  • Review and improve internal controls, accounting processes, and financial reporting procedures.
  • Support acquisition activities, including financial analysis, integration of acquired businesses, and development of appropriate reporting processes.
  • Assist with the transition from single-entity reporting toward consolidated financial reporting as the organization expands.
  • Partner with the CFO and operational leaders to provide financial insight and support informed business decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting, processes, systems, and overall efficiency.
  • Provide financial analysis and support for special projects and other strategic initiatives as required.
Qualifications
  • CPA designation is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, ideally including experience in a senior financial leadership, FP&A, or corporate accounting capacity.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and accounting principles; experience with ASPE is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and variance analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to build and maintain financial models.
  • Experience reviewing month-end and year-end financial reporting and working with external accountants.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate financial information into meaningful business insights.
  • Experience with acquisitions, integration, or consolidated reporting would be an asset.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and financial processes.
  • Experience with ERP systems; experience with Visual ERP would be an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both accounting and operational stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and provide sound judgment in a growing organization.
