Overview

Our client, a leading organization in Halifax, is seeking a Director of Finance to take ownership of tax strategies, financial reporting, and compliance. This role provides the opportunity to work directly with ownership, play a key advisory role, and ensure the organization’s financial practices align with Canadian standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the company’s tax planning and compliance, partnering with external advisors to align strategies with business goals.
  • Oversee corporate tax filings, including HST/GST, ensuring compliance and optimized financial outcomes.
  • Serve as the key liaison with external specialists, translating complex guidance into actionable processes.
  • Drive financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, providing timely, accurate statements aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Deliver data-driven insights and recommendations to support senior leadership decision-making.
  • Maintain strong internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational integrity.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to ownership, collaborating with external advisors to ensure effective financial strategies.
  • Mentor finance staff (if applicable) and support long-term planning with forward-looking financial insights.
Qualifications
  • CPA designation (or nearing completion).
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in accounting, tax, and financial reporting.
  • MUST HAVEexperience from Property Management Industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian corporate tax, HST/GST, and GAAP.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and advisory skills.
  • Prior experience in a senior finance or director-level role is considered an asset.
