Job description

MacLeod Cares is currently seeking a dynamic and compassionate Registered Nurse leader to join our team as Director of Facility and Resident Care at our brand-new Mahone Bay Nursing Home. This is a unique opportunity to lead operations and care delivery at a newly opened, state-of-the-art 96-bed facility in one of Nova Scotia’s most picturesque communities.

MacLeod Cares Mahone Bay Nursing Home is a thoughtfully designed, three-story building with six wings of 16 private rooms, each with its own welcoming common space. The facility also features a hair salon, physiotherapy and occupational therapy rooms, serene outdoor spaces, and the Irene MacLeod Community Room, a gathering space for residents, families, staff, and community members.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Resident Care Services, the Director of Facility and Resident Care is the senior on-site leader responsible for the overall operations of the Home, including resident care, team leadership, financial management, and regulatory compliance. This role provides strategic and day-to-day leadership to both staff and management, with a clear focus on delivering exceptional, person-centered care. The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical expertise, adaptability, and innovative thinking, along with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage complex responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Build and maintain positive, sustainable relationships with staff, management, residents, families, volunteers, community partners, external stakeholders, and service providers.
  • Oversee all aspects of resident care delivery.
  • Support and promote interdisciplinary care planning and education, considering each resident’s unique needs.
  • Manage service delivery and administration aligning with budgetary and productivity goals.
  • Plan, organize, schedule, supervise, and evaluate staff performance.
  • Promote employee engagement, retention, and professional development.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture through open communication and addressing staff concerns.
  • Uphold organizational integrity by exhibiting ethical behavior.

Qualifications, Certifications, and Skills :

  • Registered Nurse, BScN preferred
  • Current registration with the NSCN
  • 3-5 years of nursing leadership or similar experience
  • 3-5 years of staff and financial management
  • 3-5 years of facilities management
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Flexibility and versatility in leadership roles
