Job summary

The City of Delta seeks a strategic, collaborative leader to serve as Manager of External Relations. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, this role guides intergovernmental relations, Indigenous relations and partnerships, and advocacy, advancing Council priorities and long-term community success.

You will build strong relationships with Indigenous Nations, government partners, business and community organizations, supervise staff, and provide strategic advice to senior leadership

Qualifications

• Demonstrated leadership in a municipal environment.
• Sound knowledge of municipal government, public administration, policies and processes.
• Intergovernmental relations, Indigenous relations, economic development, public policy understanding.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, collaboration, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to lead complex projects from planning through implementation with multiple departments and stakeholders.
• Provide sound advice to senior leadership and elected officials on complex matters.
• Develop clear reports, recommendations, briefings and presentations for diverse audiences.
• Strategic, analytical and problem-solving abilities with risk/opportunity assessment.

Responsibilities

• Lead intergovernmental relations, Indigenous relations, reconciliation, economic development, tourism and partnerships portfolios.
• Develop and implement strategies to support Council priorities and external partnerships.
• Represent the City in negotiations with Indigenous Nations, government bodies, utilities and external agencies.
• Coordinate advocacy initiatives with organizations such as LMLGA, UBCM, FCM, and regional associations.
• Prepare Council reports, briefing notes, correspondence and presentations.
• Provide strategic advice to Director of Corporate Services, City Manager’s Office and Council.
