Job summary

Sienna Senior Living in North Bay is seeking a Director of Environmental Services to lead housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and resident comfort.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will develop quality assurance and risk management programs, oversee preventative maintenance and life safety, manage budgets, and work with IPAC and vendors to keep the community compliant, safe, and welcoming for residents, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental services or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of managerial or supervisory experience.
  • IPAC and Ontario Fire Marshal certifications preferred.
  • Proven experience in environmental services management in healthcare settings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain quality assurance and risk management programs to ensure compliance with legislative and organizational standards.
  • Conduct audits, analyze results, and implement corrective actions to address risks and drive continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the IPAC Lead to ensure adherence to infection prevention, safety, and health standards.
  • Lead and coordinate Housekeeping, Laundry, and Maintenance teams to ensure efficient operations and compliance with provincial environmental cleaning standards.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs for all building systems and equipment, including life safety and emergency systems.
  • Liaise with external vendors to ensure contracted services are completed on time and within budget.
  • Oversee the upkeep of the building, equipment, furnishings, and grounds to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment.
  • Manage preventative maintenance programs, electronic maintenance records, and compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations, including Asbestos Management Plans.
  • Ensure fire safety, emergency preparedness, and workplace safety compliance, including drills, inspections, and participation in Occupational Health & Safety initiatives.
  • Coordinate external services such as grounds maintenance, waste management, and minor landscaping tasks.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, oversee procurement, and ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Approve expenditures, monitor variances, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Lead, mentor, and schedule team members to maintain high standards, foster engagement, and ensure adequate coverage.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, address workplace issues, and promote a positive, collaborative work environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

Quality & Risk Management


  • Develop and maintain quality assurance and risk management programs to ensure compliance with legislative and organizational standards.

  • Conduct audits, analyze results, and implement corrective actions to address risks and drive continuous improvement.

Who You Are


  • Post-secondary degree or diploma; secondary education in environmental services or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years of managerial or supervisory experience.

  • Joint Occupational Health & Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Infection Prevention & Control certification (IPAC Canada) and Ontario Fire Marshal Emergency Management Certification (or provincial equivalent) preferred.

  • Proven experience managing environmental services, preferably in long‑term care or healthcare.

  • Knowledge of best practices in housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance.

  • Strong operational and project management skills across multiple departments.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and facility management software.
