Engineering Search Firm Inc. in Hanover, Ontario, is seeking a Director of Engineering & Technical Services to lead Technical Services and Product Development.

You will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to quality standards, while shaping technical strategies and policies. Reporting to the VP of Operations, you will manage personnel, drive process improvements, oversee design optimization, and coordinate with customers and engineers.

Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Engineer with ability to seal documents.
  • Familiar with Canadian/US Building Codes.
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of construction.
  • Knowledge of welding, drafting tolerances and fabrication (asset).
  • Eligible to obtain registration to seal documents within 6 months (asset).

Responsibilities

  • Lead Engineering, CAD, SolidWorks and Product Design.
  • Oversee personnel planning in each department to support growth.
  • Build roadmaps and deliver new functionality with production reliability.
  • Recruit, mentor and develop team members with HR support for external opportunities.
  • Inspire and hold team accountable to optimize costs and profits.
  • Conduct performance reviews and ensure consistent processes.
  • Promote outside-the-box thinking and streamline processes.
  • Create and manage continuous improvement initiatives.

$130k-$160k base salary depending on experience

Hanover, Ontario, Relocation will be assisted by our Client on a case by case Basis

Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Director of Engineering & Technical Services is responsible for leading Technical Services and Product Development, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards, while also overseeing the development and implementation of technical strategies and policies. Key aspects of these functions are personnel management, development, engagement and retention, process and efficiency improvement, design optimization and cost reductions, ensuring accurate and compliant analysis of all structural details and sealing, being focused on deadlines with a strong respect for urgency. The leadership of these departments is vital for overall organizational success. Some travel may be required from time to time, (approximately 10% or less)

Position Qualifications:
  • Education & Knowledge | Registered Professional Engineer
  • Familiar with Canadian and/or United States Building Codes
  • Able to demonstrate a mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of construction
  • Knowledge of welding, drafting practices, tolerances, welding symbols and fabrication procedures (asset)
  • Qualified to seal engineering documents in a relevant field of engineering, or eligible to obtain such registration within 6 months of hiring (asset)

Responsibilities:
  • Key and vital responsibility is the leadership of Engineering, CAD, SolidWorks and Product Design.
  • Manage overall personnel planning in each of the respective departments, to meet and manage significant growth initiatives.
  • Build and maintain target roadmaps and support the products/assets of your teams with accountability for the delivery of new functionality and for production reliability.
  • Recruit and develop team members, providing mentorship, personal development and growth and/or working with human resources to connect to external opportunities.
  • Inspire, motivate and hold team accountable to achieve optimal results and use innovation to optimize and increase profit structures.
  • Conduct performance reviews for direct reports, ensuring direct reports use the same process for their employees.
  • Promote a culture that utilizes outside the box thinking, including opportunities to streamline processes and/or, develop simple solutions to complex challenges.
  • Create and manage continuous improvement and process development initiatives.
  • Manage workflow ensuring prioritization is established and deadlines are realized.
  • Establish and manage departmental budget.
  • Lead and support the team in finding resolutions for manufacturing and on-site challenges.
  • Liaise with Sales Support on custom design solutions to optimize total costs during quoting.
  • Enforce development processes and standards that enhance the team's efficiency and quality.
  • Work with Executive Leadership to make decisions for operational activities and execute strategic planning and goals for the business.
Technical Capabilities
  • Provide concepts and design direction to team.
  • Check and verify design drawings to confirm they meet design specifications.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of our products and quality standards.
  • Develop design standards considering material specification tolerances, manufacturing feasibility and supplier specifications.
  • Coordinating technical development, scheduling and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Managing integration of technical activities and products.
  • Familiar with foundational reactions, and other engineering related documents & calculations.
  • Organizational / Structure
  • Deliver improved profitability through design and optimizations.
  • Develop and execute on long-term vision for the department.
  • Meet and exceed annual objectives as established by the Executive leadership team.
  • Allocate material, human, and financial resources to implement organizational targets.
  • Establish, evaluate, and manage KPIs to ensure we are meeting business and customer expectations.
  • Influence product improvements, standardization, and product development.
  • Manage and enforce document control process, ensuring all relevant parties are notified of revisions.
Other / Personal
  • Work closely with the Costing & Estimating team to optimize designs.
  • Work closely with operational and sales leaders to set, meet and exceed organizational goals and meet delivery deadlines.
  • Work with all internal departments to ensure customer needs are met.
  • Liaise with the customer, 3rd party engineering services & Architects.
  • Work closely with Dealer Managers and Quality to resolve any field challenges.
  • Able to establish credibility with engineers and other professionals.
  • Maintain a fast-paced working environment with urgency on meeting deadlines.
  • Perform other tasks assigned as needed, in support of the business.
