Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Engineering to lead our engineering organization with a focus on machine design, production processes, and manufacturing optimization.

  • The successful candidate will oversee the design, development, and implementation of machinery and equipment, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and quality in production. This role is pivotal in driving innovation in engineering systems and aligning technical capabilities with business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead and mentor the engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and execute the long-term engineering strategy to support business objectives and production goals.
  • Partner with operations, supply chain, and product development teams to align engineering capabilities with business needs.
Machine Design & Development
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of machine design, from concept and prototyping to implementation and scaling.
  • Drive innovation in custom machinery, automation, and tooling to improve production efficiency and product quality.
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and cost-effectiveness requirements.
Production Process Optimization
  • Analyze, design, and improve manufacturing processes to increase throughput, reduce costs, and ensure repeatable quality.
  • Implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives across production lines.
  • Integrate advanced technologies, including automation, robotics, and digital monitoring systems, into production workflows.
Project & Resource Management
  • Manage engineering budgets, timelines, and resource allocation to deliver projects on schedule and within scope.
  • Evaluate and select external partners, vendors, and contractors for machine design and production support.
  • Lead capital equipment planning and implementation for production facilities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with product development to translate design requirements into scalable production solutions.
  • Work with quality assurance to ensure equipment reliability and compliance with quality standards.
  • Provide technical leadership in executive discussions and contribute to long-term corporate strategy.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing machine design and production processes.
  • Proven track record of leading custom machine design projects and implementing scalable manufacturing solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing systems, automation technologies, and lean methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and large-scale capital projects.
