Clio is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to build and maintain a secure, scalable internal platform. This leader will empower engineers to securely build tooling and engage with LLMs, accelerating development velocity while upholding high standards of reliability and security.

The role reports to senior leadership, mentors managers and ICs, and drives long-term technical roadmaps across infrastructure and development teams.

Job description

Clio is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to build and maintain a highly secure, available, and performant internal platform. This leader will empower all Clions to securely build tooling and engage with LLMs, unlocking their velocity. The role will transform core systems and processes, leading from the front by directly implementing, triaging and solving problems.

Responsibilities

• Author, review, and ship both code and infrastructure‑as‑code to create and maintain Clio’s internal platform.
• Analyze platform use cases, strengths, weaknesses and infrastructure gaps to deliver solutions that elevate operational excellence.
• Work with senior leadership to evolve the internal LLM strategy and build guardrails and observability to empower it.
• Directly supervise, mentor and collaborate with engineering managers and individual contributors.
• Partner with Clions and internal tooling teams to ensure all internal tools meet high standards of security, performance, reliability, availability and change velocity.
• Train and advocate for the responsible use of the internal platform across Clio.
• Collaborate with recruiting/people teams to actively recruit and hire top talent for the infrastructure and development groups.

Qualifications

• Experienced senior engineering leader comfortable pushing code.
• Eager adopter of LLM tooling and experienced user of frontier models and related technologies (MCP, agentic harnesses, agent guardrails).
• Proven track record of managing across and up the organization to define, communicate and champion a long‑term strategic roadmap.
• Adept at managing and mentoring high‑performing teams, nurturing talent and guiding individuals toward professional growth.
• Demonstrated experience maintaining services and systems.
• Proven ability to craft long‑term strategies and manage technical roadmaps that support future growth.
• Capable of running agile organizations at scale with a sense of urgency to deliver quality software.
• Experience promoting positive culture and diversity throughout a large engineering organization.
