$200,000.00/yr - $240,000.00/yr

TeamBuilder Consulting is currently supporting a client in hiring a Director of Engineering in downtown Toronto. This privately held company works with millions of global users who rely on their AI-powered travel and expense solution to simplify business travel, automate expenses, and drive cost-efficiency at scale.

In this Engineering Leadership role, you'd be a key part of the engineering leadership team and oversee multiple engineering teams responsible for delivering centralized services critical to the suite of SaaS applications. This includes ERP integrations, financial system connectors, authentication services, and shared infrastructure components. You'll be instrumental in shaping the technical roadmap, ensuring scalability, fostering a collaborative engineering culture and mentoring talent.

Type of Leader we are seeking:

Technical Leadership

• 8+ years of experience in software development and architecture, with 5+ years in engineering leadership roles.
• Proven ability to lead and scale high-performing engineering teams across geographically distributed locations.
• Deep knowledge of modern software development practices and industry trends.
• Mastery of application development, data processing, and system architecture.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), infrastructure as code (IaC), and security best practices.
• Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java, Python, Node.js, and/or .NET.

Process & Execution

• Expertise in software development lifecycle (SDLC), secure SDLC (SSDLC), and regulatory compliance (PCI/DSS, GDPR, CCPA).
• Strong track record of driving execution across multiple products and projects while collaborating with Product and Design teams.
• Experience working in agile, scrum, and DevOps environments.
• Skilled in establishing technical roadmaps, aligning engineering output to business priorities, and delivering scalable, secure applications.

Impact & Delivery

• Proven success in delivering reliable, high-quality, scalable software products within timeline and budget constraints.
• Strong ability to assess, coach, and mentor engineering talent; build a collaborative and growth-oriented team culture.
• Experience with performance management, talent development, and hiring aligned to company values.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate project and operational risks early.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical and business topics clearly to senior leadership.
• Experienced in stakeholder management, expectation setting, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Skilled in building alignment across teams, managing priorities, and facilitating goal setting and delivery planning.
• Strong coaching and mentoring experience to sustain team growth and performance.

Preferred Experience

• Experience building and integrating with APIs, especially in B2B SaaS or financial services domains.
• Familiarity with secure coding practices and common software vulnerabilities.
• Understanding of software delivery performance metrics (e.g., DORA) and using data to drive improvements.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
