Qualifications

About the Opportunity

The Law Society is currently seeking afull-time Director of Credentials & Licensingto join our team in ahybridwork environment, inVancouver, B.C.

In this key leadership role, you will oversee the Law Society’s regulatory programs related to admissions, licensing, and credentials. Reporting to executive leadership, the Director is responsible for managing a team, ensuring compliance with the Legal Profession Act and Law Society Rules, and supporting the Credentials Committee with policy implementation and decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing the Credentials team, including hiring, training, and performance management
  • Ensuring consistent application of fair, effective and timely regulatory process for investigations
  • Conducting a reasonable caseload of credential files
  • Responding tocommunicationsfrom applicants and licensees oncredentials and licensingrequirements
  • Reviewing and approving reports prepared for the Credentials Committee and providing support to the Credentials Committee
  • Monitoring compliance withcredentials hearing panel and committeeimposed restrictions and conditions
  • Overseeing the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program and theaccreditation processes for family law mediators, arbitrators, and parenting coordinators
  • Executing policy decisions and regulatory changes related to licensing and credentials
  • Managing departmental procedures, cross-departmental collaboration, and operational alignment
  • Managing the unclaimed trust fund program
  • Developing and managing the department’s annual budget
AboutYou

To qualify, you will need aBachelor of Laws, Juris Doctor, or other related legal training, along with aminimum of 5 years of direct operational experiencewith a focus onadministrative law, ideally within a regulatory body. Experience managing staff performance and departmental budgets is required. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Familiarity with regulatory, membership, or admissions environments
  • Strong leadership and conflict resolution abilities
  • Proficiency in legal or regulatory policy administration and application
  • Understanding of credentialing and licensing processes
