Job description

The Director of Cost Accounting provides financial guidance, leadership and advisory to our manufacturing facility management team across the Cadrex Corporate. This position will be accountable for driving a consistent methodology for cost accounting that drives both effective and timely financial reporting, as well as serving as an input to the quoting and estimating process. In addition, the position will work closely with location operations and finance to enforce strong inventory control processes and accurate valuation across the Cadrex Corporate. The Director of Cost Accounting is expected to be a dynamic leader upholding the Corporate’s vision, ethics and integrity.

The Director of Cost Accounting opportunity is geared for applicants with strong communication and partnering skills. Job functions include financial modeling on various financial products as well as measuring and analyzing performance in conjunction with operating plans, advising management on the allocation of resources to best accomplish objectives, and preparing reports for management.

REPORTS TO

  • This position reports directly to the Corporate Controller

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

FINANCIAL AND OPERATIONAL CONTROLS

  • Work with local accounting teams on establishing and maintaining consistent costing systems and processes
  • Assist with ERP implementations, and manage project components related to inventory and cost accounting processes
  • Ensures that there is an effective and efficient system of internal controls as related to inventory management and costing practices including: data integrity, segregation of duties, budgeting, financial reporting, information systems and adherence to corporate policies and governmental regulations.
  • Establish companywide cycle counting procedures and ensure that processes are followed in a consistent manner
  • Interface with the quoting and estimating team to ensure that costing is fully understood and used to drive out pricing decisions
  • Assist as needed with operational and financial audits
  • Survey performance to date and assess potential opportunities and risks

REPORTING AND ANALYSIS

  • Review monthly and quarterly operating results from sales down to gross profit on the P&L, as compared to both prior periods and to budgets/forecasts. Provide analysis and commentary to support FP&A processes
  • Manage all monthly standard cost variance analysis processes, ensuring that analysis is used to drive operational improvements and decision making
  • Work closely with cross functional partners in Accounting, Procurement and Operations to execute against plans
  • Possess the know-how and be able to explain internal and external drivers impacting performance and trending
  • Assist in special projects as required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ Years in a progressive accounting or finance environment
  • Providing leadership to organizations within a manufacturing operation(s)—leading operations planning, savings, forecasting, budgeting and investment analysis
  • Strong standard costing and other related experience
  • ERP implementation and integration
  • Participating in the development of strategic plans
  • Demonstrated high growth in previous experience Cost accounting including standard costing and multi-level variance analysis
  • Experience with inventory control and management
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
  • CPM system experience preferred

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or relevant discipline required
  • CMA certification preferred

  • Strong financial acumen with demonstrated analytical ability accompanied by knowledge of corporate finance and manufacturing costing principles—understands P&L and balance sheet dynamics
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and communicate in simple, impacting terms
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and control costs—effectively develops business cases and enroll leaders at all levels in taking appropriate action
  • Conducts himself/herself with the highest ethical and moral standards
  • Highly motivated and results driven with a high energy level—has a bias for proactive action
