Job description

As the Director of Construction, you will be responsible for overseeing and leading all major stages of various projects, including the restoration of the former St. John the Baptist Church on Purcells Cove Road. This historic church, built in 1929 with original Douglas-fir trusses and Spanish-Moorish architecture, has recently been designated as a Heritage Property. In this role, you will participate in the planning and design process through to day-to-day management of the construction site, directing on-site activities. Your project management experience will be utilized to plan, manage, and respect project budgets, costs, and purchasing. Your expertise in risk management will ensure project risks are minimized. Additionally, you will mentor and develop the project team, sharing industry best practices at every stage.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Supporting overall contract administration on various construction projects to ensure they are built according to design, budget, resources, quality, and schedule;
  • Developing and implementing the project safety plan, leading by example in health and safety practices;
  • Assisting with the negotiation and issuance of subcontracts, major purchase orders, and progress payments;
  • Driving the construction schedule in collaboration with the project team to meet site activities, completion dates, and milestones;
  • Forecasting and ordering material requirements, ensuring quality standards, and coordinating distribution to site teams;
  • Providing leadership and mentorship, fostering positive relationships with project/site staff and subcontractors;
  • Overseeing project closeout processes.

Your qualifications :

The ideal candidate has demonstrated success in overseeing large-scale multi-unit residential, institutional, or commercial construction projects from concept to completion. You are an organized, driven leader who is adaptable and committed to team development.

Qualifications include :

  • 15+ years of progressive experience as a Project or Construction Manager in multi-unit residential, commercial, or institutional construction;
  • Experience with various concrete construction methods;
  • Strong knowledge of multi-unit construction techniques, ability to interpret drawings and specifications;
  • Proven experience promoting safety standards and ensuring compliance on site;
  • Effective supervision, coordination, and scheduling skills to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget;
  • Ability to anticipate and resolve constructability issues proactively;
  • Capability to lead effective site meetings with clients, consultants, trades, and team members.
