Job description

We honor those that are not afraid to dream big dreams, those that tenaciously chase their dreams even when others say it cannot be done, those that achieve big dreams and change everything. Those are Dreams Worth Chasing.

At Sierra Space, we envision a future where humanity lives and works in space, on moons, and on distant planets. Our mission isn’t restricted to the few; instead, we see a future where all people can choose to live, work, discover, and explore beyond our planet. Our company is building a platform in space to benefit life on Earth, and together we will alter the course of humanity.

We have a bold mission. We are a bold company. Together, we are an extraordinary team.

About the Role

The Director of Compensation at Sierra Space will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing innovative end-to-end compensation programs to attract, retain, and motivate top talent across Sierra Space. This role will ensure that our compensation practices are competitive, equitable, and aligned with the company's strategic objectives. The Director of Compensation will work closely with senior leadership, HR, and other stakeholders to develop and execute compensation strategies that support the company's growth and success.

This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of executive compensation, broad-based compensation, and equity practices, and a proven track record of designing and implementing effective compensation programs. They will possess strong analytical skills, have the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights, and leverage AI to drive innovation, efficiency, and effectiveness.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the technology industry, either through experience in the aerospace and defense sector or another high-tech company. Exceptional leadership and collaboration skills are required, and experience taking a company through an IPO process and working on subsequent public company compensation processes is highly preferred.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will be adaptable, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This role reports directly to the Sierra Space Chief People Officer.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design, develop, and implement comprehensive compensation strategies, policies, and programs that align with Sierra Space's business goals and objectives.
  2. Conduct market research and analysis to ensure competitive compensation practices and make recommendations for adjustments as needed.
  3. Oversee the design and administration of base salary, incentive plans, equity programs, and other compensation-related initiatives.
  4. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations.
  5. Collaborate with HR and senior leadership to develop and maintain job descriptions, salary structures, and career progression frameworks.
  6. Provide guidance and support to managers and HR partners on compensation-related matters, including job evaluations, salary offers, and promotions.
  7. Lead the annual compensation review process, including merit increases, bonus payouts, and equity grants.
  8. Monitor and analyze compensation trends and best practices to ensure Sierra Space remains competitive in the market.
  9. Manage compensation-related projects and initiatives, including system implementations and process improvements.
  10. Prepare and present compensation reports and analyses to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
