Director of Community Relations

About the Role

A leading organization in the natural resources sector is seeking a Director of Community Relations to develop and execute a comprehensive engagement strategy. This newly created role will focus on building relationships, fostering trust, and enhancing public awareness of the company’s operations and their benefits to local communities, economic development, and environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement a community engagement strategy that strengthens relationships with key stakeholders and enhances public understanding of responsible forestry practices.
  2. Engage with diverse community groups across multiple regions, including municipal leaders, industry associations, environmental organizations, recreational groups, and academic institutions.
  3. Monitor and address community concerns, ensuring proactive communication and identifying opportunities for mutual benefit between the company and the communities in which it operates.
  4. Represent the company at public forums, including town halls, trade fairs, industry conferences, and community events. Some travel and work outside regular hours may be required.
  5. Stay informed on policy changes and industry trends to provide recommendations on proactive engagement strategies.
  6. Develop compelling communication initiatives that educate the public on the economic, environmental, and social benefits of sustainable forestry.
  7. Track and report on community engagement efforts, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and key performance indicators.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  1. 10+ years of experience in forestry, natural resources, government relations, or community engagement, with a deep understanding of industrial manufacturing and/or heavy industry trends and policies.
  2. Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate vision into action.
  3. Exceptional communicator and relationship builder who can engage with diverse stakeholders, influence decision-making, and navigate complex organizational structures.
  4. Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, connect the dots, and drive initiatives forward.
  5. Proven leadership skills with the ability to model integrity, build trust, and inspire collaboration.
  6. Highly responsive and action-oriented, with a continuous improvement mindset.
  7. Comfortable presenting to senior leadership and engaging with public audiences. Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
  8. Must be based in Saint John, New Brunswick, or willing to relocate. (Generous relocation assistance available)
