Position Description: In collaboration with the Chief Impact Officer, the Director of Community Engagement plays a key role in setting the strategic direction of Nine PBS’s engagement and relationship-building with the community. The Director of Community Engagement is responsible for cultivating, managing, and expanding relationships with key community stakeholders, including other nonprofit organizations, businesses, and key community leaders. This leadership role is critical in aligning community engagement and partnership strategies with Nine PBS’s Core Purpose and Values by increasing visibility, enhancing impact, and securing strategic collaborations and resources.
This role helps represent Nine PBS in a leadership capacity with the goal of meeting the community where they are and identifying community priorities using the Nine PBS Community Engagement Model. They must be a team player, working simultaneously across multiple engagement priority areas with both a local and national focus.
The Director of Community Engagement is responsible for the vision, management, and execution of Nine PBS’s partnership building efforts, including strategy and program development. They represent Nine PBS’s community partnerships internally by providing strategic leadership, oversight, and project management for key initiatives and externally by managing projects with strategic partners who engage within our trusted network.
The ideal candidate for this position must be a strong leader with the ability to drive impactful initiatives, communicate across teams, develop short- and long-term strategies, and have a well-rounded leadership capacity to set clear expectations and hold staff accountable for their work. They will also be well-versed in making data-driven decisions that enable them to serve as a thought-partner to the Chief Impact Officer and the Director of Content Partnerships by helping to develop the themes related to community needs and priorities for how our work is approached and executed, from a content and engagement standpoint. Finally, this individual will leverage digital platforms to listen and drive understanding on how, when, and what engages community members surrounding identified priority topics and information.
Primary Responsibilities: The following primary responsibilities are vital to successfully meeting the expectations of this position in an effective and efficient manner; however, there may be other duties as assigned.
Strategic Partnership Development
-Develop and implement a comprehensive community partnership strategy to support organizational goals.
-Identify, engage, and sustain meaningful partnerships with trusted partners, community leaders, and other key stakeholders.
-Serve as the primary liaison for community partners, ensuring strong communication and alignment.
Community Engagement
-Engage in digital listening to connect more deeply with the community and better understand community priorities.
-Represent Nine PBS at in-person community events and convenings, listening sessions, and strategic meetings.
-Develop and oversee community engagement opportunities that foster collaboration and impact.
-Build a network of advocates and supporters to elevate Nine PBS’s visibility and Core Purpose.
Program Support & Collaboration
-Collaborate with program staff to identify partnership opportunities that enhance resource cultivation and sharing.
-Align partnership goals with program outcomes and community needs.
-Facilitate cross-sector collaborations that promote innovation and resource sharing.
Leadership & Team Management
-Supervise and mentor community engagement staff, as applicable.
-Provide training and capacity-building resources to team members around partnership cultivation and the community engagement model.
-Effectively manage a team of community engagement staff, including ensuring their work is aligned with the Impact team’s strategic goals and holding them accountable for all identified deliverables.
Communications & Reporting
-Work with the communications and content team to highlight partnership success stories and community impact.
-Elevate learnings and community priorities and provide updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with at least 3-5 years of experience in education, community engagement, project management, or other related fields. Demonstrated experience leading teams effectively. Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other MS Office applications. Technology savvy with the ability to learn new platforms/software. Experience in the non-profit sector is required.
Hybrid Schedule: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule. Expected to be in the office 2-3 days per week, attend all-staff meetings in person, and other events as required by the VP and Chief Impact Officer. Given the nature of this position, access to reliable transportation is required.
