Join to apply for the Director of Care - Full Time - Lakeside role at Extendicare.

This position is for our Director of Care at UHNs Lakeside, located in Toronto managed by Extendicare Assist.

Responsibilities
  • Accountable to the Executive Director, overseeing resident care and quality of life through developing care plans, supervising equipment, supplies, staffing, nursing services, policies, and procedures.
  • Promote and provide resident-centered care in accordance with the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
  • Ensure professional practice standards are effectively deployed, communicated, and monitored, complying with all relevant legislations and standards.
  • Lead the implementation and monitoring of clinical programs such as Falls Prevention, Skin and Wound Care, Continence Care, Pain Management, and Behavior.
  • Handle HR responsibilities within the nursing and personal care department, including recruitment, orientation, performance management, and discipline.
  • Train, coach, and develop nursing staff, implementing improvement plans as needed.
  • Participate in the accreditation process, ensuring standards are met regularly.
  • Establish positive relationships with residents, families, staff, volunteers, and the community.
  • Monitor and review supplies and staffing plans to maintain a balanced budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a registered nurse in long-term care.
  • At least 3 years of managerial or supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong leadership, initiative, and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates caring, respectful behavior, with strong clinical, assessment, conflict management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in English (oral and written).
  • Computer literacy relevant to the role.
