Job Description :

  • Support the Controller in managing day-to-day accounting operations, including fixed assets, revenue, accounts payable, joint venture accounting, and general administrative expenses.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a large accounting organization of 100+ professionals, building technical strength and ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable financial reporting.
  • Oversee and analyze assigned accounts to ensure adherence to GAAP and SEC guidelines, including assessing the impact of current and emerging accounting standards.
  • Contribute to the timely preparation and review of monthly financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Manage key components of the monthly close process, such as recording accruals, estimates, and necessary journal entries.
  • Draft and review financial statement footnotes and disclosures required for quarterly and annual SEC filings.
  • Develop, update, and document accounting policies and internal procedures to strengthen consistency and compliance.
  • Assist with financial system enhancements and process improvements aimed at increasing efficiency and accuracy.
  • Play a key role in maintaining internal controls in alignment with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 requirements, ensuring controls effectively mitigate risks related to financial reporting accuracy and completeness.
  • Support the design and continuous improvement of control frameworks, including both entity-wide and transaction-level controls.
  • Collaborate with leadership on strategic initiatives, offering financial insights and recommendations to support business objectives.
  • Lead and participate in external audit engagements and ensure readiness for quarterly and annual audits.
  • Provide financial insights to senior management by analyzing key metrics, trends, and variances through internal reporting tools.
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial data for earnings releases, investor relations materials, and external communications.
  • Work closely with the technical accounting team and auditors to conduct quarterly disclosure reviews and identify opportunities for reporting enhancements.
  • Conduct benchmarking and disclosure analysis of peer organizations to identify best practices and drive continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the implementation and optimization of internal reporting systems and automation projects to enhance reporting accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of combined public accounting and industry experience, specifically within the exploration and production (E&P) sector or Midstream.
  • At least 5 years in a similar accounting leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of oil and gas accounting principles, reporting requirements, and transaction processing.
  • Expertise in technical accounting matters, with advanced knowledge of internal control frameworks and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with oil and gas accounting systems and software.
  • Demonstrated proficiency across key areas of GAAP-based accounting, including :
  • Revenue recognition, joint interest billing (JIB), accounts payable, property taxes, and G&A cost allocations.
  • Corporate fixed asset accounting, including depreciation and asset management.
  • Financial statement analysis, with the ability to interpret and communicate financial performance trends to management.
