What is the opportunity?

Reporting to the Senior Director, Business Risk and Governance, the employee will support the Cards and Loyalty group with respect to network requirements, as well as Enterprise Payments and Solutions Acceleration & Innovation. This role ensures that the group’s products comply with network partners’ mandated rules, operating regulations, and contractual commitments. Responsible for scoping, evaluating and providing advice/support as it relates to our evolving payment network needs and the impact of new network strategic drivers and mandates on the Cards Payment and Banking business, including lobbying where appropriate with networks.

Job Summary

What will you do?

  1. Manage Network Rules, including meetings (VISA, Mastercard), Advisory Committees (Interac), exceptions, waivers, negotiations, and maintenance.
  2. Architect and manage RBC's relationship with Interac for the Everyday Banking and Product Team.
  3. Negotiate and lobby with networks in consultation and variance processes.
  4. Serve as contract SME for VISA, Mastercard, and Interac Master Services Agreements.
  5. Lead cross-functional initiatives driven by network mandates and risk considerations.
  6. Advise on interchange matters to business, RBC Law, and others.
  7. Manage supplier activities for VISA and Mastercard (SMRA, SOC 1s, PIA, etc).
  8. Represent as sponsor for projects related to network changes or mandates.
  9. Support project teams on network elements and Moneris in relevant matters.
  10. Advise on PCI issues, changes, and queries.
  11. Provide coaching and development to direct reports.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  1. LLB or MBA
  2. Deep knowledge of payments ecosystem and RBC products related to Cards Payments and Banking.
  3. Understanding of operational flows, controls, connections (networks, TSYS, suppliers).
  4. Strong legal and business judgment.
  5. Compliance focus and understanding of regulatory frameworks.
  6. Contract negotiation skills.
  7. Analytical mindset and documentation skills.
  8. Strategic thinking ability.
  9. Leadership, facilitation, negotiation, and communication skills.
  10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  11. Problem-solving skills and relationship management competencies.
  12. High initiative and motivation.
  13. Technological proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, VISA Online, Mastercard Connect.
