Job Overview

As the leader of the Mortgage Broker Services team, the Director, Mortgage Broker Services is responsible for overseeing the Mortgage Channel, including effective adjudication of mortgages, building relationships with brokers and stakeholders, leading the team to deliver exceptional service, and managing broker projects that enhance member and broker experiences. This leader is a motivator who leads by example and has a proven track record of results in a dynamic retail credit environment.

Role
  • Execute delegated lending authority promptly to respond to brokers and approve mortgage applications.
  • Build strong relationships with the Broker team, Business Development Managers, and brokers.
  • Lead the team to achieve business objectives through quality coaching and development.
  • Implement service leadership processes involving staff in their creation and execution.
  • Address staff and third-party inquiries efficiently to uphold experience standards.
  • Maintain administrative processes for third-party sources to ensure efficiency and quality control.
  • Support credit application approvals within set limits and guidelines.
  • Review and adjudicate ALT A and near-prime applications, including terms and pricing.
  • Act on staff-recommended credit decisions and escalate as necessary.
  • Develop relationships with internal partners to ensure compliance.
  • Review and recommend updates to lending guidelines and procedures.
  • Conduct random audits and quality controls of mortgage files.
  • Coordinate and monitor the quality of credit submissions for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Stay informed of industry trends and bring forward ideas for improvement.
  • Support staff development and ensure adherence to standards and policies.
  • Lead a performance-driven, service-oriented culture with recognition and rewards.
  • Hold regular meetings to foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Prioritize health and safety for the well-being of the team and members.
Required Skills
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Business or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10 years of mortgage adjudication experience, including 5 years in broker services
  • At least 5 years of team management experience in a demanding environment
  • Expert knowledge of mortgage industry standards, policies, credit analysis, including various mortgage types
  • Strong mortgage structuring skills with flexibility and creativity
  • Knowledge of CMHC, Sagen, and Canada Guaranty insurance requirements
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Understanding of financial statement analysis
  • Proven leadership in managing high-performing teams
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of relevant systems and platforms
  • Organizational skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Responsive to client requests
  • Awareness of risk management and compliance requirements
  • Ability to handle challenging situations and uncertainty
