Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Technical Services, the Director of Metallurgy will support the company's technical services team by leading improvement initiatives and addressing operational challenges across projects and mine sites in Canada and Mexico.

Role Overview

The Director of Metallurgy will provide technical support for existing mines and projects, focusing on process areas such as carbon-in-leach and heap leach operations. The role involves collaboration with the Senior Vice President, Technical Services, and site teams to develop and implement processing plans aligned with the company's vision. Additionally, the role includes supporting the Toronto-based Technical Services team with feasibility studies, technical reports, and due diligence.

This position is based in Toronto, with regular travel to mine sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visit mine sites to identify, evaluate, and manage risks in process areas, reviewing management plans, process status, and trends.
  • Assist in developing practical contingency plans to mitigate key risks and ensure production continuity.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives with process teams to meet production targets.
  • Conduct trade-off studies and cost estimates for process improvements and projects.
  • Ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate will have engineering expertise and operational experience in gold processing, including crushing, grinding, leaching, and associated technologies. Strong communication skills for reports and presentations, operational skills, and willingness to travel are essential.

Experience

15+ years of progressive experience as a metallurgist and processing engineer, primarily in operational roles.

Experience with carbon-in-leach and carbon-in-pulp operations is preferred; heap leach experience is a plus.

Experience designing and managing metallurgical test programs, processing methodology trade-offs, and effective stakeholder communication.

Continuous improvement experience is advantageous.

Proficiency in comminution software and fluency in English are required; Spanish is a plus.
