The Mechanical & Electrical Practice is looking for a Director to lead a dynamic team of over eighty (80) engineers and technicians in the Technical Professional Organization (TPO). This position reports to the Vice-president, Practice Lead, Mechanical & Electrical and would be based in our offices of British Columbia, Alberta or Manitoba.

Your role within the team

  • Lead and manage the sub-practice operations with a focus on collaboration and excellence as well as instil a culture of safety, integrity, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness;
  • Actively manage operational costs to approved budgets and forecasts, while minimizing overhead costs;
  • Maximize chargeability of the group, while ensuring a healthy work-life balance, by coordinating resources with other teams, inside or outside of your Practice;
  • Coordinate with our Global Technology Center (GTC) and increase usage over time where possible in your sub-practice;
  • Develop and maintain internal and external networks to strategically position the department on ongoing and upcoming projects in Canada and globally;
  • Steer performance for project execution by holding regular project performance reviews;
  • Cascade sales objectives and manage their achievement (pipeline, win rate, etc.);
  • Evaluate business opportunities in collaboration with the various Market Leads and participate in business development activities;
  • Control adherence to the commercial and pricing policies, corporate processes;
  • Lead or collaborate in the preparation and/or review of proposals in conjunction with the Market and the Proposal Management Team;
  • Engage with clients, seek for commercial opportunities and guide your team in delivering exceptional service to our clients;
  • Cross-sell other disciplines with our clients to help win work for other parts of the organization;
  • Build a high-performance team, with a focus on retention, talent development and performance management;
  • Participate in recruitment including strategic hires, as appropriate based on workloads and Market requirements;
  • Implement rules and procedures to ensure health & safety of employees and the environment as well as prevention of workplace incidents. Furthermore, in a context of continuous improvement, be proactive in identifying and improving health, safety & environment rules and procedures to prevent hazards related to your work;
  • Work with Team Leads to ensure availability of key resources for stretch assignments, strategic proposals and projects, and key client/focal roles for career development opportunities;
  • Be involved as project manager and/or senior technical support on projects or client portfolios;
  • Participate to conferences and trade events representing and promoting AtkinsRéalis;
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

The ideal candidate

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other related discipline;
  • Member of your professional Order, or eligible to become a member (additional jurisdictions across Canada is an asset);
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering, including experience in managing technical teams and project management;
  • Dynamic leader with proven ability to manage and empower people in a team setting;
  • Solid communication skills and ability to influence;
  • Proven ability to achieve business development and client relationship development objectives;
  • Recognized for mobilizing leadership while ensuring a high level of effectiveness and efficiency;
  • Ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing organizational context;
  • If you are in the province of Quebec, knowledge of both French and English is required. Since this role involves interacting with stakeholders and organizations across Canada and internationally, knowledge of English is required.
  • If you are outside the province of Quebec, knowledge of English is required, and French is an asset.
