About The Role

As ATB’s next Director, Market Risk Stress Testing & Market Risk Oversight you will lead and develop an integrated Market Risk Stress Testing and Market Risk Oversight function within Financial Risk Management.

This role is responsible for establishing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive market risk stress testing frameworks to meet regulatory requirements and internal risk management objectives. It also involves expert measurement, interpretation, and management of trading and banking book risk, including policy development, data architecture oversight, and insightful analytics. A key focus will be on integrating stress testing insights to inform risk appetite and strategic decision-making.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain the firm's market risk stress testing framework, including scenario design principles and methodologies.
  • Lead the creation of a comprehensive suite of stress test scenarios (historical, hypothetical, Single Risk Factor).
  • Oversee the execution of stress tests and ensure data accuracy.
  • Deliver timely and insightful reporting of stress test results, including key vulnerabilities.
  • Refine methodologies for risk measurement across trading and banking books.
  • Provide expertise for input into the risk policies, frameworks, and process architecture.
  • Oversee the implementation and integrity of data architecture supporting risk reporting and analysis.
  • Develop insightful analytics, and provide ad-hoc analysis to business lines.
  • Mentor and coach a team of market risk analysts for best practice in a Capital Markets framework.

Integration & Strategic Insights

  • Integrate stress test outcomes into internal processes, limit calibrations, reporting.
  • Contribute to the definition and calibration of risk appetite statements based on stress testing results.
  • Provide analysis on the balance sheet implications of stress scenarios.

Policy & Process Enhancement

  • Continuously review and enhance policies and procedures related to both market risk and stress testing.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process automation and improvement.
  • Collaborate effectively with front-office, technology, risk, finance, audit, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex risk and stress testing concepts clearly to various audiences.

Regulatory Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements for market risk and stress testing.
  • Manage regulatory examinations and address audit findings.
  • Build, lead, and develop a team of professionals with expertise in market risk and stress testing.

Required Qualifications

Skills, experience & requirements

  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Financial Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • Professional certifications such as FRM, CFA, or PRMIA are an asset.
  • 8-12+ years of progressive experience in financial risk management, with demonstrated expertise in both risk measurement & analytics and market risk stress testing.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g., OSFI, Basel) and stress testing guidelines.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing methodologies and frameworks for both risk and stress testing.
  • In-depth knowledge of a wide range of financial instruments and associated market risks.
  • Strong quantitative analysis, data manipulation, and modeling skills (proficiency in tools like SQL, Python, R is a plus).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.
