Position Summary
Reporting to the VP, Human Resources, the Director, Learning & Talent Development, is responsible for the design, development and execution of the organization’s programs in the areas of learning and development, leadership development, talent management, succession planning, and organizational effectiveness initiatives across Methanex globally.
The Director, Learning & Talent Development, will work in close collaboration with HR business partners and senior business leaders to ensure the above are managed, scaled, and delivered appropriately, based on company strategy.
You will collaborate with leaders across Methanex and regional HR teams to develop a deep understanding of organization wide Learning & Talent Development needs. As a member of the Global Human Resources Team, you will contribute to the development and execution of the Global Human Resources Strategic Plan.
Position Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Learning & Development
- Leads the development and execution of a global learning & development strategy and programs to build core capabilities across our teams that drive performance in alignment with our corporate strategy.
- Collaborates with leaders, team members, global and regional HR teams, to define our critical organizational capability requirements.
- Develops and executes a multi-year learning and development roadmap, which aligns global and regional programs, to support the development of team members across different functions and disciplines.
- Oversees the development, where appropriate, of blended and scalable learning and training solutions, evaluating both face-to-face, virtual, and digital solutions for delivery to a large audience throughout the organization (including management of external vendors, where appropriate).
- Partners with the VP, HR and Director, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) to implement programs and initiatives that support Methanex’s EDI strategy.
- Collaborates with leaders, Global HR Business Partners and regional HR teams to oversee a global competency assurance framework that is integrated into a broader learning and development strategy.
Leadership Development
- Leads the development of the global leadership development strategy in consultation with the Global HR Team (“GHRT”) and senior leaders, ensuring strategic alignment of leadership development with Methanex’s corporate strategy.
- Leads the design and delivery of a cohesive set of global leadership development initiatives that contribute to the attraction, retention and development of leaders and employees at all levels (including management of external vendors, where appropriate).
Talent Management & Succession Planning
- Leads the design and delivery of the global talent and succession management processes and practices required to attract, select, retain, motivate and develop the people critical for organizational success and effectiveness. Ensures equitable talent evaluation outcomes.
- Designs and shapes the talent philosophy across the company that connects to Methanex’s views on growth, development, evaluation and compensation.
Performance Management
- Oversees a performance management framework that drives accountability, development and high-performance.
- Links performance, learning and leadership development frameworks to encourage skill building, performance excellence and professional growth at all levels.
- Partners with business leaders and HRBPs to assess organizational needs and implement solutions to improve effectiveness.
Global Human Resources
- Participates as a full member of the GHRT, developing and implementing the global HR strategy, plans, global HR systems, best practices and global principles, policies and procedures.
Position Qualifications
Education and/or Professional Designation
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience and Technical Skills/Knowledge
- Progressive HR experience in mid to large, multi-national organizations; strong background in HR business partnering and operations, with a focus on learning and development, leadership, performance management, succession planning, organizational effectiveness, and workforce planning.
- Proven ability to develop and implement talent strategies that drive business results and integrate diversity and inclusion best practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills at all organizational levels, including senior leadership.
- Strong mentoring, influencing and conflict management skills, with the ability to lead without direct authority.
- Some international business travel is required (approximately 2-4 trips annually).
