Job description

We are currently seeking a Director, IT Technical Operations to join our team.

The Director, IT Technical Operations is a pivotal leader overseeing both people and technology, with shared responsibility for driving technology operational excellence, service delivery, and results across IT. This role provides both strategic vision and hands-on operational leadership to ensure the performance, reliability, and sustainability of enterprise systems. The Director is accountable for the full systems lifecycle from implementation to retirement, along with the end-to-end support functions that keep systems optimized and aligned with business objectives.

We are open to filling this role across Canada; however, please note that preference will be given to candidates located in BC due to the proximity of our office locations. To be considered for this role, you must be eligible to work in Canada.

Here’s what would be included as a part of your typical day

  1. Leadership: Provides strategic and operational leadership to technology operations and support functions covering Core Banking System, API Operations, Other Applications, Cloud Infrastructure, and Help Desk. Optimizes service delivery in alignment with IT strategies and business plans through DevOps practices, streamlined processes, and well-defined SLAs. Leads, coaches, engages, and mentors the team, supporting professional development and overseeing performance management activities.
  2. Strategy and Planning: Develops and implements strategies and roadmaps for all support functions, including Wealthview banking system, its partners, and connected ecosystem. Ensures the upkeep of the banking system platform, its connected ecosystem, infrastructure, and other applications, along with operational improvements and technology updates.
  3. DevOps: Partners with delivery teams to ensure seamless delivery and maintenance of banking system services and operations, including build components, release deployment, automated testing, and support. Provides support services and incident response for core systems, backed by SLAs, escalation protocols, vendor partnerships, and internal resources. Oversees onboarding of new systems and applications, ensuring audit readiness and compliance.
  4. Platform / Cloud Infrastructure: Designs, supports, and maintains technology platforms. Provides incident response and remediation for cloud infrastructure and related ecosystems, with SLAs, escalation protocols, vendor relationships, and internal resources. Oversees onboarding of new designs and platforms, ensuring ongoing support and compliance.
  5. Budgeting and Vendor Management: Manages the IT budget within the area of responsibility. Oversees vendor, contractor, and third-party relationships to support system integration, delivery, and operationalization aligned with organizational objectives and audit requirements.
  6. Risk Management: Proactively manages operational risks by identifying risks and opportunities across software development, release, change management, and security practices. Implements controls to mitigate exposures, ensures compliance with regulatory and enterprise standards, and represents the area at risk management committees to promote a cohesive risk posture.

Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • 9+ years of IT experience with increasing levels of responsibility, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Advanced leadership and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to advise and collaborate with business leaders and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Expert knowledge of IT concepts, especially within financial services.
  • Experience in enterprise system operations, preferably in financial services or credit unions.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and standards (. OSFI, FCAC, PCMLTFA, CDIC, privacy laws, employment laws).
  • Experience in incident management and enterprise system support.
  • Understanding of risk management and policy adherence.
