Job Description

WHAT'S THE JOB?

Reporting to the Vice President of Information Technology, the Director of IT Operations drives capacity planning, oversees cloud operations, and enhances cybersecurity. Leading the IT operations team—including cybersecurity, infrastructure, and user support—they ensure seamless technology management and data security. This role also facilitates clear communication with stakeholders and directs the implementation of new environments.

Specific Accountabilities

Technology Operations Management

  • Oversee cybersecurity, network administration, user support, and cloud infrastructure.

  • Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of IT systems and services.

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure IT effectiveness.

  • Develop and enforce IT policies, standards, and procedures to support business objectives.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain IT support processes and procedures to improve and optimize efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Procurement & Asset Management

  • Identify and implement upgrades, configurations, or new systems to enhance efficiency.

  • Procure cost-effective technology solutions, including hardware, software, and infrastructure.

  • Manage IT asset lifecycle, ensuring optimal utilization and decommissioning.

Financial Oversight

  • Develop, manage, and report on the IT operations budget.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality and security.

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Build and maintain vendor relationships, negotiating cost-effective contracts.

  • Ensure vendor performance meets service level agreements (SLAs).

Cybersecurity & Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate cybersecurity threats, ensuring compliance with security frameworks.

  • Implement and oversee disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

  • Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop the IT operations team, including cybersecurity, infrastructure, and user support.

  • Foster a high-performance culture through mentorship, training, and career development.

  • Define roles and responsibilities, ensuring alignment with business needs.

Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison between IT and business units, translating technical needs into business solutions.

  • Provide guidance and support to non-technical stakeholders regarding IT best practices.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure IT operations comply with industry regulations and corporate governance policies.

  • Maintain data privacy and protection standards in line with legal and regulatory requirements.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment with a flexible work schedule.

  • Travel to client sites will be required (5-10%).

  • On call rotation a requirement.

  • Trained in required safety protocols

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

  • 10+ years of management experience in an IT environment, with a strong focus on IT operations.

  • Proven experience in IT strategy development, system implementation, and operational management.

  • Experience in analysis, implementation, and evaluation of IT systems and specifications.

  • Demonstrated success in managing IT service delivery, including network administration, user support, and cybersecurity.

  • Experience overseeing IT budgets, cost control, and vendor negotiations.

  • Cybersecurity governance and risk management experience is an asset

  • 5+ years of experience managing cloud infrastructure, with preference for Microsoft Azure.

  • ITIL Certification is an asset.

  • Relevant cybersecurity certifications (CISSP, CISM, or equivalent) are an asset.

  • Project management certifications (PMP, PRINCE2) are a plus.

Functional Competencies

  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, including cloud computing, networking, cybersecurity, and enterprise applications.

  • In-depth knowledge of IT operations frameworks, best practices, and compliance requirements (ISO 27001, NIST, SOC 2, etc.).

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams and drive performance.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders, senior leadership, and external vendors.

  • Proficiency in IT service management (ITSM) tools and methodologies.
