Headquartered in Toronto, the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is responsible for investing in new infrastructure projects. The CIB’s mission is to work with provincial, territorial, municipal, federal, Indigenous and private sector investor partners to transform the way infrastructure is planned, financed and delivered in Canada.

The CIB is enabling infrastructure projects to move forward by using our creative financing solutions to attract and leverage private sector and institutional investment in revenue-generating infrastructure projects in the public interest. Over the past 5 years, the CIB has built a portfolio of 79 investments totalling over $13 billion in commitments in key sectors including clean power, green infrastructure, transit, trade and transportation, and broadband that will foster economic growth, connect Canadians and contribute to the sustainability of infrastructure in Canada.

The Director, Investments, is an active senior member of the CIB investments team and is involved in all aspects of the sourcing and execution of investment opportunities. This dynamic role includes developing creative financing strategies for projects facing financing gaps to attract private capital and leading and executing the full lifecycle of investments, including managing junior deal team members. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and knowledge in finance, private equity, equity research, investment banking or advisory in an infrastructure-related field.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in sourcing a pipeline of potential investment opportunities by establishing and maintaining a network of contacts in the public and private sectors across Canada and the infrastructure industry
  • Managing and executing transactions and advisory mandates, including opportunities at different stages of development (e.g., from early-stage projects requiring advisory to deals that are ready for CIB investment), including feasibility/business case assessment, investment structuring, due diligence, financial modelling, negotiation, legal documentation, internal approval documentation and management of both internal resources and third-party advisors including legal, market, technical, insurance and others
  • Participating in asset management activities on transactions after they close
  • Identifying new sectors, potential investment opportunities and market developments
  • Developing CIB financing solutions to address project and market needs
  • Overseeing and managing more junior deal team members
  • Ad hoc responsibilities to support the overall investments function and organization consistent with a growing and evolving business

The ideal profile:

  • 10 plus years of infrastructure investing experience
  • University undergraduate degree in a related field (finance, engineering, accounting or science)
  • Bilingualism (French and English), written and verbal, mandatory
  • Master’s degree in business or finance, or CFA or CPA designation considered an asset
  • A strong network and established relationships within the Quebec business community would be highly beneficial
  • Demonstrated experience with capital structuring at the corporate or project level and leading all aspects of the transaction cycle (including managing deal teams, originations, negotiations, legal documentation, etc.)
  • Experience with government agencies is an asset
  • Self-starter with strong project management skills, relationship building skills, leadership skills
  • Strong organizational commitment, comfortable working with complexity and ambiguity, entrepreneurial and solution-oriented mindset
  • Highly collaborative team player
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
