Job description

At CI, we see a great place to work as one that is a safe place for everyone to have a voice, where people are empowered to take ownership over meaningful work, where there is an opportunity to grow through stretching themselves, where they can work on innovative products and projects, and where employees are supported and engaged in doing so. This is an opportunity to take a leading role in strengthening and overseeing the tax governance and compliance framework of a growing investment management business. You will work closely with experienced professionals across the organization and contribute to the successful management of tax risk while supporting product innovation and business growth. We are seeking an experienced tax professional to join our investment fund business, with a primary focus on tax governance, compliance, and risk management. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing the tax framework supporting a broad range of investment funds and investment products. Working closely with stakeholders across legal, finance, operations, product, compliance, and portfolio management, this individual will help ensure the organization maintains strong tax controls and appropriately manages tax risk. This role is well suited to a CPA, tax accountant, tax lawyer, or other tax professional with investment fund experience who combines technical knowledge with practical judgment, strong organizational skills, and a collaborative approach.

What you will do:

  • Oversee and support tax compliance processes for investment funds and related entities.
  • Monitor and assess tax risks associated with existing products, new initiatives, and regulatory developments.
  • Maintain and enhance tax governance frameworks, policies, controls, and procedures.
  • Support the implementation and documentation of tax-related controls and oversight processes.
  • Review offering documents, legal agreements, and other fund-related documentation from a tax and governance perspective.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and administrative developments affecting investment funds and investors.
  • Assist with audits, regulatory reviews, and information requests involving tax matters.
  • Partner with legal, compliance, finance, operations, and product teams to identify and address tax risks while supporting business objectives.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives, fund launches, reorganizations, and product changes to ensure tax and compliance considerations are appropriately addressed.

What you will bring:

  • CPA, CA, CPA (Tax), LL.B., J.D., or equivalent professional designation.
  • 7+ years of relevant tax experience, preferably within investment funds, asset management, financial services, public accounting, or a tax law practice.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian income tax rules applicable to investment funds and fund investors.
  • Experience with tax compliance, governance, controls, and risk management processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative environment.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of tax governance, compliance, and risk management. Takes a practical and business-oriented approach to problem solving. Works well with others and builds strong relationships across functions. Exercises sound judgment and can balance technical considerations with business objectives. Is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing complex processes. Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Is collaborative, approachable, and team-oriented. Demonstrates integrity, accountability, and a commitment to high professional standards.

This role follows our in‑office work model and requires employees to be onsite four days per week to support collaboration and business needs. This opportunity is for an existing vacancy with the company. The anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $143,000.
