Compensation Details:

Family Product Owner 20: Salaries typically range from $127,380 to $169,838 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:

Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 3 days per week. (subject to change)

This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Laval, or Brossard.

Team and Job Overview:

The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences.

Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:

  • Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
  • Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
  • Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
  • Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.

Reporting to the Vice-President Technology Operations & Services (TOS), the Director, Infrastructure & Cloud Platforms and Data Centre Operations will play a critical role in directing and optimizing all operations of a data centre facility to ensure data performance, availability, and security.

What you will be doing:

Infrastructure & Cloud Platforms Strategy and Delivery:

  • Lead the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of scalable, secure, and high-performing compute, storage, and network infrastructure, for both on-premises and in the cloud.
  • Drive hybrid and multi-cloud adoption strategies (e.g., Azure, AWS), ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, security, and compliance standards.
  • Oversee the modernization of legacy infrastructure platforms through automation, virtualization, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Lead the evergreen strategy and refresh planning for core infrastructure platforms, ensuring timely updates and replacements of hardware and software to maintain performance, supportability, and security compliance.
  • Partner with application and platform teams to support reliable, integrated service delivery across environments.

Data Centre Operations:

  • Direct the operation and optimization of the primary data centre environment, and any secondary locations (as required), ensuring 24/7 availability, physical security, and adherence to energy efficiency best practices.
  • Define and enforce data centre policies, procedures, and controls related to hardware lifecycle, system installations, racking, patching, and decommissioning.
  • Ensure environmental monitoring and facility integrity (power, cooling, humidity, fire suppression) to maintain operational continuity and reduce risk of downtime.
  • Support the long-term strategy for data centre consolidation, modernization, and cloud migration, in support of EDC’s IT & Cyber Resiliency practices.

Operational Excellence & Service Availability:

  • Establish and maintain operational metrics (uptime, availability, capacity, utilization, etc.) and reporting mechanisms to ensure proactive monitoring and performance optimization.
  • Lead the resolution of major infrastructure incidents, ensuring timely root cause analysis and preventative improvements.
  • Accountability for hardware, software, and maintenance costs of EDC’s infrastructure, ensuring timely execution of contract renewals and value optimization of portfolio.
  • Align infrastructure support models with ITSM/ITOM practices (e.g., incident, change, asset, and configuration management).

Governance, Risk & Compliance:

  • Ensure infrastructure platforms and data centre operations adhere to internal policies, audit requirements, cybersecurity standards, and industry regulations (e.g., ISO, NIST).
  • Participate in risk assessments, continuity planning, and disaster recovery exercises for critical infrastructure components.
  • Maintain accurate infrastructure inventories, documentation, and lifecycle plans.

Leadership & People Development:

  • Lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams of infrastructure engineers, cloud architects, and data centre specialists.
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with executive and cross-functional leaders to shape strategic priorities, influence technology direction, and support enterprise transformation initiatives.

What we are looking for:

  • Undergraduate Degree with a specialization in computer science or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ proven experience in managing data centre operations, ensuring optimal performance, security, and efficiency.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in developing and maintaining IT resiliency plans, including cyber recovery and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Minimum 5 years’ in leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience to lead and inspire diverse, cross-functional teams; including junior and senior staff, by fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance culture aligned with EDC’s values.

Strong knowledge of data centre infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, networking, and cooling systems.

Familiarity with data centre standards and best practices (e.g. ANSI/TIA-942, tier classifications).

Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements as it relates to IT Resiliency and Data Centre Operations.

Ability to identify and implement new technologies to enhance data centre operations.

Ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes and performance.

Bilingual in both official languages (English and French).
