SALARY: Payband 13, $130,500 to $153,545 per year

Position Description

The Director, Indigenous Strategy and Sr Advisor on Indigenous Relations reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Anti-Racism, Equity, and Human Rights Services. This role involves collaborating with the college, leadership, and external partners to support Indigenous success and contribute to decolonization efforts through advocacy and community-building.

The incumbent leads the development and implementation of the Indigenous Education Strategy, focusing on building respectful relationships with Indigenous communities and fostering an inclusive environment that prioritizes Indigenous rights, knowledge, and practices.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Strategic Leadership: Provide leadership and advice on Indigenous inclusion, lead strategy development, and support decolonization efforts.
  2. Community Relations and Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, chair the Indigenous Education Council, and develop strategies to meet Indigenous educational needs.
  3. Internal Coordination and Leadership: Lead the Indigenous Strategy Committee, foster collaboration among Indigenous-focused roles, and ensure alignment with community needs.
  4. Management and Accountability: Set goals, manage initiatives, and track progress on Indigenous strategies.
Educational and Experience Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Indigenous Studies, Education, or related field, with relevant community experience.
  • Minimum nine years’ experience in a senior Indigenous-focused education role, including strategic planning.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and within consultative decision-making processes.
  • Proven leadership in Indigenous education within complex organizations.
Skills and Attributes
  • Deep understanding of reconciliation, decolonization, and Indigenous self-determination principles.
  • Ability to influence positive change across institutional structures.
  • Commitment to anti-racism, equity, diversity, inclusion, and intersectionality.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous protocols and governance, with ability to build trust with Indigenous communities.
  • Willingness to travel between campuses and attend community events.

Interviews may include a practical skills component.
