Help us raise the expectation of what an agriculture company can be and grow your career with Nutrien.

Located at our office in Saskatoon, this Director of Indigenous Relations will report to the VP of Sustainability & Stakeholder Relations within Nutrien’s Sustainability & Stakeholder Relations team.

We are looking for a trusted advisor, a strategic counsellor, and a natural relationship builder to lead Nutrien’s engagement with Indigenous communities where we operate. You are a collaborative leader capable of maintaining a solid relationship with our communities.

What you will do:
  • Lead the ongoing development and execution of Nutrien’s Indigenous Relations strategy, which includes engagement, communications, and external partnerships.
  • Manage the Indigenous Relations team, providing leadership, coaching, and guidance, including building and managing annual budgets.
  • Partner with colleagues in Human Resources, Procurement, Brand & Culture Communications, Operations, and Community Relations and Investment to build Indigenous Relations competency.
  • Lead engagement with existing external partners and identify new opportunities for collaboration.
  • Advise on the development of Nutrien’s capability in supporting Indigenous agriculture.
  • Engage Indigenous communities where we operate to identify shared values and priorities and advance business goals.
  • Engage and support the Indigenous community and education institutions to close the gaps Indigenous people face in education and the labour market.
  • Lead the continued development of best practices in Indigenous Relations in partnership with HR, Procurement, Communications, Community Relations, and Investment.
  • Guide the integration of Indigenous Relations throughout the organization.
What you will bring:
  • 15+ years of experience in Indigenous Relations in a corporate setting.
  • A combination of experience and education in other fields will be considered relevant for the role.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder relations theory and practice and proven relationship builder.
  • In-depth knowledge of the shared history of Indigenous people in the Canadian context. Knowledge of the international Indigenous context is considered an asset.
  • Strong public speaking skills with the ability to effectively present to diverse audiences, including internal and external stakeholders, and team members.
  • An outcomes-based mindset and demonstrated experience building external partnerships from concept to results.
  • A high level of discretion, judgement, and an ability to deal with complex and sensitive issues.
  • An ability to navigate a large corporate setting, often with competing demands.
  • Experience in agriculture or mining is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage complex change and shift priorities comfortably; highly effective in ambiguous environments.
  • Ability to effectively utilize data and analytics to shape recommendations and reinforce key messages.
  • Proficiency in Office tools, especially Excel and PowerPoint, is an asset.
