Job summary

Parkwood Seniors Community is seeking a seasoned Director of Hospitality to lead dietary and hospitality operations across campuses. You will oversee dining services for residents in Long-Term Care, Retirement Suites, and Independent Apartments with a focus on quality, service, and resident experience.

Lead development of menus, standard recipes, and procurement while ensuring compliance with regulations and budgets.

Qualifications

  • Culinary diploma and/or five years of progressive cooking experience.
  • Active member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management is preferred.
  • Red Seal Certification is preferred.
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate required.
  • Experience with menu planning, food quality, purchasing, inventory and cost control.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with residents, team members and contractors.

Organizational Background

Parkwood Seniors Community is a not-for-profit, charitable, faith-based Continuum of Care located in Waterloo (corner of University Ave and New Hampshire St) supported by 23 Mennonite and Brethren in Christ Congregations. It is one of three campuses of Fairview Parkwood Craigweil Communities.

The vibrant Parkwood campus offers more than a housing solution. It has been purposefully designed and expanded to create a sense of community for older adults where all are welcome.

Position Summary

Parkwood is seeking an experienced and passionate hospitality leader with a diverse culinary background, strong leadership and management skills, and a commitment to delivering an exceptional dining experience for our residents.

As the Director of Hospitality, you will provide leadership and oversight of the dietary and hospitality operations across our campus, ensuring high-quality food, service, and resident experiences. This includes supporting dining services for 96 residents in Long-Term Care, 78 residents in Retirement Suites, and more than 90 residents in Independent Apartments.

Position Specific Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, facilitate and evaluate food services in consultation with the Director, Food Services and Dietitian, as appropriate.
  • Create and implement menus with input from Residents’ Council and Dietitian, as per legislation
  • Develop standardized recipes and menus following guidelines
  • Monitor services in accordance with legislative, professional, best practices and standards
  • Ensure staff needs for the cooks and servers, including hiring, orientation/training, shift assignments, schedules and payroll, are met while meeting budget requirements
  • Monitor employee performance; provide guidance, counseling/coaching, conducting performance reviews and attendance management programs.
  • Responsible for food/supply purchasing, inspection and storing; ensure rotation of new products
  • Assist with annual budget preparation; stay within approved budget.
  • Ensure completion of audits; develop action plan to correct/improve measures.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives that ensure innovation, quality in dining services and high customer service standards across the campus
  • Participate in annual program evaluations, as required.
  • Track and monitor key performance indicators, including quality, department and human resources.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Active member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management
  • Culinary diploma and/or five (5) years of progressive cooking experience
  • Red Seal Cook Certification, preferred
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate required
  • Experience with menu planning, food quality, purchasing, inventory and cost control
  • Experience with Mealsuite preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with residents, team members and third-party contractors
  • Experience in senior living environment is an asset
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check, TB Test and COVID vaccine proof required
Patient Safety Roles and Responsibilities

All staff are responsible for identifying incidents and for taking immediate action to ensure the safety of residents, visitors and other staff. Open disclosure must occur when a resident safety incident happens, regardless of whether it is unplanned, unintended or a circumstance that could have resulted or did result in unnecessary harm to a resident. Data and feedback from staff, residents, families and partners can identify system vulnerabilities to inform quality improvement efforts.

Salary

In addition to a salary range from $66,000-$80,000, we offer an extensive health and benefits package along with a contribution matching pension plan. The final compensation offered may vary based on a variety of factors, including a candidate’s experience, skills and location.
