What is the opportunity?

As Director, you will have oversight and accountability for the quality and soundness of RBC Personal Banking products in digital channels and RBCx Ventures. Provide overarching risk management oversight via effective challenge and counsel as subject matter expert for Digital and Ventures, including, strategy, key initiatives, product policy, processes, controls, and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technology, understands the agile way of working, a deep understanding of digital channels and strong risk and business acumen.

What will you do?

The Director will work with first and other second line of defense subject matter experts across the risk spectrum to ensure the overall risk profile is aligned with stated risk appetite within the context of Personal Banking priorities and strategy. In this capacity, the Director is expected to ensure risks are appropriately identified, assessed, mitigated, monitored and are within the Bank’s stated risk appetite. These include:

  • Provide risk counsel to Personal Banking partners
  • Act as Risk Management SME for select change initiatives contributing to development of same while ensuring risks are identified, assessed mitigated, controlled and monitored
  • Review, challenge, recommend, approve (as outlined in delegated authorities) risk assessments related to new or amended products, change initiatives, policies, processes and systems (e.g. Risk Triage Assessments, Project Approval Requests, Product Shelf Reviews etc.). Recommend to Senior Management and Committees (such as Product Review and Approval Committee, and / or Policy Review Committee).
  • Act as a relationship partner to the business/channel by adding value through consultation, offering expertise, recommendations and guidance.
  • Shape risk assessments/risk management routines to be future-ready for our clients and business partners; recommend enhancements to risk management methodologies, frameworks, and tools appropriate to each business unit’s operating model and risk profile.
  • Stay informed on external events, relevant industry practices, business and economic environment as well as internal change
  • Support regulatory reviews and internal and / or third-party audits, as required.
  • Ensure the business/channel is operating within applicable regulatory guidelines.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 10+ years of related experience
  • Strong business (credit / investments / digital (as required)) knowledge and the ability to critically think and deploy data in the risk assessment process.
  • A proven track record of building positive and productive relationships with business and functional partners
  • Strong understanding of the agile ways of working and ability to apply agile working techniques within the context of providing risk oversight
  • Ability to influence and build consensus while managing competing points of view to ensure collaborative decision-making; Strong decision-making ability while dealing with ambiguity.
  • The following attributes: Strong ability to confidently communicate verbally and in the written form, strong teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Consistently demonstrates intellectual curiosity and resourcefulness.

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge in Personal Banking policies and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of RBC’s risk appetite and risk management framework.
  • Prior experience with RBC’s Risk Assessment protocols and requirements.
  • Demonstrated success as a conceptual, creative, analytical and strategic thinker.
