Air Canada is looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced leader to join its Government and Community Relations team.

Reporting to the Vice President, Government and Community Relations, the successful candidate will play a leading role in representing Air Canada in Western and Northen Canada, being responsible to develop and foster relationships with key government, industry and community stakeholders and advocating for policies that support the airline’s goals and its contributions to Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as Air Canada’s main representative for Government and Community Relations in Western and Northern Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon and Northwest Territories);
  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies to support the competitiveness of the airline industry and enhance Air Canada’s business objectives, while ensuring that the aviation system and its complexities are well understood;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with decision makers at all levels of governments (including elected and Senior government officials) and key stakeholders in communities in Western and Northen Canada;
  • Represent Air Canada in public forums and events across Western and Northern Canada including events organized by chambers of commerce, trade, tourism and industry organizations and act as Air Canada’s representative with local/provincial associations, interest groups or third-party organizations;
  • Lead Air Canada’s engagement strategy in response to policy, legislative or regulatory developments impacting Air Canada and/or the airline industry in Western and Northen Canada;
  • Collaborate with the media relations team to develop public messaging and ensure consistent communication to all stakeholders;
  • Negotiate partnership agreements to enhance Air Canada’s visibility and presence in communities and collaborate with the community relation teams to activate these partnerships;
  • Identify and create opportunities to raise Air Canada’s profile with target audiences in Western and Northern Canada, including with Senior leadership and Executives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline required
  • Previous experience in Government and/or stakeholders’ relations (10 to 15 years) and knowledge of government decision-making process is essential
  • Knowledge of the airline industry is an asset
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset
  • Based in Vancouver and travel as required on a frequent basis
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills
  • Excellent decision-making abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Highly motivated
  • Good judgment and discretion
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
