The Opportunity

Are you a strategic financial controller ready to make a meaningful impact? SAIT is seeking a visionary Director, Financial Services to oversee our financial reporting, drive innovation in financial processes, and ensure compliance with standards, controls and policies. This is a unique opportunity to direct a high-performing team and contribute to the financial health and sustainability of SAIT.

In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of financial strategy, reporting, and risk management. You’ll collaborate with senior leadership, and champion continuous improvement in financial processes and systems. You’ll also play a key role in fostering a culture of learning, development, and belonging within your team.

The Role

  • Oversee a team responsible for all financial reporting, including quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Lead the preparation of Audit and Investment Committee reporting packages
  • Manage all financial functions related to capital assets, payroll, and treasury
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of all regulatory filings
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards and relevant legislation
  • Serve as the institutional expert on internal controls, ensuring robust frameworks are in place to safeguard assets, ensure compliance, and support accurate financial reporting
  • Lead the annual external audit process
  • Collaborate with finance leadership to set departmental vision and cross-functional goals
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide financial direction and guidance to management, interpreting finance and audit requirements
  • Lead the strategic direction of financial systems and tools, ensuring alignment with institutional goals
  • Champion the adoption of new technologies and digital solutions to enhance financial operations
  • Mentor and develop staff, fostering a high-performance culture and advocating for career growth
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Promote a workplace culture rooted in community, inclusion, and a strong sense of belonging

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in corporate finance, including at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Experience with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) is a requirement
  • Experience with ERP systems; Banner is preferred
  • Deep expertise in designing, implementing, and evaluating internal control systems to mitigate risk and ensure financial integrity
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong relationship management and cross-functional collaboration abilities
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Proven ability to think innovatively and embrace new approaches to enhance financial strategy, systems, and operations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering community and belonging in the workplace

Salary range : $165,000 - 190,000
