Job description

Toronto Public Library (TPL) is North America’s biggest and busiest urban public library system. Reporting directly to the City Librarian (TPL’s Chief Executive), the Director, Finance & Treasurer is the Library’s CFO.The Director provides executive leadership and oversight of TPL’s financial management function. The Director is responsible for providing timely, accurate, clear and complete financial information to the Library Board and City Librarian to enable them to exercise their fiduciary duty of care and due diligence. The Director is also responsible for maintaining a financial framework of policies, procedures, controls and authorities that manage risk and maintain TPL’s financial credibility, while supporting innovative, efficient and high-quality library service.

As an integral member of the Senior Management team, a collaborative working style is essential.With a demonstrated commitment to Toronto Public Library’s core values, you have a university degree and a professional accounting designation and related senior level experience in a finance management role, preferably in the not-for-profit or public sector. You have a solid understanding of budget, financial planning, governmental accounting and cost control procedures and the ability to articulate and translate the impacts (financial and other) of key business decisions. An effective leader, you bring experience in managing a team of finance professionals and administrative staff, fostering an open, and inclusive work environment that attracts, engages and retains high performing staff. You will act as an innovative, future-facing leader in the finance field, staying up to date on trends in financial management, business leadership and organizational effectiveness.TPL is looking for a public sector leader who can be a change agent and collaborate to help TPL support the ongoing transformation of these important services and build organizational capacity for innovation.
