The Director, Finance - Accounting & External Financial Reporting is responsible for the accounting (inventory valuation, fixed assets, general accounting, sales and income tax) and external financial reporting (EFR) functions, ensuring IFRS compliant policies and effective controls over financial reporting are in place for all legal entities within the structure.

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  1. Provide guidance, leadership, and direction to the accounting and EFR teams.
  2. Oversee the preparation and timely submission of deliverables for the annual external financial statement audit, including issuance of financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
  3. Oversee the preparation and timely submission of deliverables for the annual pension plan audit.
  4. Manage the month-end & year-end accounting cycles, ensuring timely closure and accurate, complete results in accordance with IFRS.
  5. Establish and manage governance processes for balance sheet general ledger account reconciliation and review, ensuring timely and valid reconciliations.
  6. Lead the balance sheet forecast and budgeting process.
  7. Coordinate and review complex accounting issues, providing guidance to leadership and business partners.
  8. Develop, implement, and manage IFRS-compliant accounting policies, ensuring documentation, communication, and regular review/update.
  9. Ensure processes for sales, excise, and withholding taxes are in place, including timely remittances and managing government portal access.
  10. Manage income tax return preparation and filing.
  11. Maintain relationships with external partners such as auditors, government agencies, and tax advisors.
  12. Monitor control systems to preserve assets, minimize risks, and ensure accurate financial statements.
  13. Support internal audits as needed.
  14. Identify and pursue process, system improvements, and efficiency opportunities.
  15. Lead, motivate, train, and retain a high-performing team capable of delivering results.
  16. Comply with all Health & Safety policies and requirements.
  17. Prepare and support ad-hoc analysis, reports, and key projects as necessary.

The ideal candidate:

  • Holds a University degree in Business, Accounting, or Commerce.
  • Has a CPA designation.
  • Possesses a minimum of 10 years of post-university work experience, including 5+ years in supervisory or management roles.
  • Is proficient in advanced Excel skills and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrates leadership and influencing skills.
  • Has excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Is adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity and change.
  • Is highly service-oriented and a team player.
  • Has a passion for fashion and luxury retailing.
