Job description

Finding the right finance leader for a stadium is about more than producing accurate financial statements. It's about finding someone who can thrive in a fast-paced, event-driven business where concert nights can run late, operational decisions happen in real time, and leadership teams rely on financial insight to drive strategy. This role is ideal for a senior finance leader who loves getting into the details, building strong teams, and turning complex financial information into a clear business story.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director, Finance of BC Place is an experienced business and people leader responsible for providing financial oversight, direction, and leadership across the organization. Working closely with the Finance team, senior leadership, and operational stakeholders, this role ensures best-in-class financial reporting, analysis, controls, and compliance while helping drive strategic business decisions.

This is a highly visible leadership role within a dynamic venue and events environment. No two days are the same at BC Place. One day you may be leading the annual budgeting process, negotiating financial terms within a major contract, or presenting forecast updates to executives. The next, you may be overseeing event settlements following a sold-out concert that wrapped long after most offices have turned off the lights.

The successful candidate is a strong accounting professional first and foremost. They bring deep technical expertise, exceptional analytical capabilities, and the ability to translate financial results into meaningful business insights. They are equally comfortable reviewing complex reconciliations, coaching a finance team, supporting negotiations, and presenting strategic recommendations to executives.

What You Will Do
  • Lead all day-to-day financial operations for the BC Place, including oversight and integration of shared services accounting functions.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of financial records across all departments.
  • Oversee general ledger management, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Deliver accurate, timely, and meaningful financial statements and management reporting.
  • Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and long-range financial planning processes.
  • Provide detailed financial analysis, operational reporting, and business insights that support strategic decision-making.
  • Analyze operating trends, financial performance, and key business drivers to identify efficiencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee event settlement preparation, review, analysis, and presentation while ensuring accuracy and strong client relationships.
  • Manage recurring billings, accounts receivable performance, credit management, and revenue reconciliation activities.
  • Lead capital asset management activities, including additions, disposals, write-downs, and maintenance of the capital asset register.
  • Ensure payroll processes are completed accurately and on time through effective procedures, support, and training.
  • Manage the annual external audit process and maintain strong relationships with auditors and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain and continuously improve financial policies, procedures, workflows, and internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and maintain financial reporting in accordance with PSAB requirements.
  • Provide financial guidance on contracts, leases, supplier agreements, sponsorship agreements, and other commercial arrangements.
  • Support leadership with contract reviews, negotiations, and financial risk assessments.
  • Advise senior leaders on financial impacts, emerging issues, and opportunities affecting business plans and budgets.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Partner with leaders across the organization to support operational success, strategic initiatives, and long-term business objectives.
  • Be prepared to support an events-based operation where concert and event schedules may occasionally require evening work and late-night financial oversight.
What You Will Bring
  • CPA designation is required.
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline. A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • 7+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience, ideally including Controller-level responsibilities.
  • Proven success leading and developing finance teams within complex, multi-stakeholder organizations.
  • Deep technical accounting expertise with strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting standards.
  • Experience with PSAB reporting standards is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analytical reporting.
  • Advanced financial modeling and business analysis capabilities with a natural curiosity for understanding the "why" behind the numbers.
  • Experience leading month-end and year-end close processes in fast-paced operational environments.
  • Strong audit management experience and ability to ensure compliance while driving process improvements.
  • Experience managing capital assets, contract reviews, lease accounting, and financial implications of commercial agreements.
  • Exposure to risk management and contract negotiations is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence and build credibility with executives, operational leaders, clients, and external partners.
  • A collaborative leadership style paired with strong business judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands‑on execution.
  • Comfortable working in an events-driven environment where business needs occasionally extend beyond traditional office hours.
  • Passion for building efficient processes, creating strong controls, and helping an organization make informed decisions through data and financial insight.

This is a unique opportunity for a finance leader who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, leading through complexity, and partnering with a business that operates at the intersection of live events, operations, and community impact. If you're a strong Finance leader ready for your next challenge, or an experienced finance director looking for a highly visible leadership role where your work directly influences organizational success, we'd love to hear from you.
