Job description

The Director for Faculty Recruiter and Retention is responsible for managing the faculty recruitment process at Meharry Medical College, including recruitment, marketing, outreach, contract processing, and onboarding of new faculty. The role involves developing strategies to attract passive and active job seekers and establishing a talent pipeline. The incumbent will work independently, with support from School and Departmental Leadership, Faculty Affairs and Development, and HR staff. The position reports to the VP of Human Resources, with a dotted line to the Provost, who sets recruitment priorities in consultation with Deans.

The ideal candidate will be a nimble problem-solver with a mindset for continuous improvement and excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with candidates, physicians, and leadership.

Essential Functions
  • Manage full life-cycle recruiting for clinical, basic sciences, and teaching faculty, ensuring diversity and compliance.
  • Source, interview, and recommend candidates for hire.
  • Analyze and disseminate recruitment data.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on recruitment best practices.
  • Process recruitment transactions accurately and timely.
  • Contribute to workforce planning strategies.
  • Implement HR priorities across the institution.
  • Manage search committee processes and coordinate recruitment events.
  • Collaborate on retention strategies with HR and leadership.
  • Analyze faculty data to identify patterns and risks.
  • Address faculty concerns effectively.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of medical education, clinical practice, residency, licensing, and certification processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects independently.
  • Flexibility and adaptability for process improvement.
  • Proficiency in data analysis for decision-making.
Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources or related field required.
  • Doctorate preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in recruitment or talent management in higher education or academic medicine.
  • Experience in medical or clinical recruitment, including physicians.
  • Experience with recruitment marketing and social media platforms.
  • Supporting search committees experience.
