Reporting to the General Manager and serving as a key member of our Strategy Team, you’ll oversee everything from structural engineering and building systems to capital projects, venue safety, and security. You’ll play a vital role in standardizing and optimizing facility operations while leading a team that ensures our space is safe, efficient, and future-ready.

As the successful candidate for this role, you will :
- Oversee daily operations including maintenance, security, and facility systems to ensure efficiency and compliance.
- Lead preventive and corrective maintenance programs to minimize downtime and improve performance.
- Ensure safety and regulatory compliance across all operational activities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to sustainability, energy use, and accessibility.
- Translate strategic goals into actionable plans with measurable KPIs and timelines.
- Provide quarterly updates and reports to leadership and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
- Ensure full compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations, including lease agreement obligations.
- Identify and mitigate operational risks while continuously evaluating performance through data analysis.
- Manage departmental budgets, expenditures, and vendor contracts in alignment with financial goals.
- Oversee capital and internal facility projects from planning to delivery, ensuring timelines, quality, and cost-efficiency.
- Optimize utility usage and resource allocation to promote sustainability and cost control.
- Ensure procurement aligns with policy and supports operational continuity.
- Lead and mentor a diverse team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.
- Drive recruitment, training, and performance development to support workforce needs.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including unionized teams.
- Promote inclusion, recognize team success, and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Champion ECC’s Health, Safety, Security, and Sustainability programs by ensuring compliance with policies, leading environmental initiatives, and maintaining emergency preparedness in collaboration with safety leadership.
- Represent and uphold Explore Edmonton’s values through decision-making and communication.
- Act as a strategic liaison across departments and with municipal stakeholders.
- Promote innovation, continuous improvement, and customer service excellence.
- Build strong external partnerships and foster transparent communication across levels.
The ideal candidate will have :
- A proven facilities operations leader with 7–10 years of progressive experience, in facility management, building maintenance and / or construction which involved facility planning, construction, maintenance, and operations required.
- Strong building operations knowledge in areas of maintenance and ground, building systems, preventative maintenance programs, security and safety, building electrical systems and risk management; emergency and disaster mitigation and response
- 5+ years in a leadership role required with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing, diverse teams in both unionized and non-unionized settings
- Bachelor’s degree / Accreditation in Facility Management, Engineering, or a related field (equivalent experience considered). Project Management Professional and valid 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate is considered an asset.
- Experience overseeing facilities and operations in convention centres, recreation complexes, healthcare, construction projects or educational institutions are considered a strong asset.
- Strong knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and emergency power, required.
- An effective strategic thinker and problem solver, with a strong understanding of facilities compliance and municipal governance.
- Strong communicator who excels in collaborative, multi-stakeholder environments, setting clear expectations and promoting accountability alongside engineering and management teams
- Demonstrates knowledge of facilities management principles involved in large venue assets, strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, maintenance, safety and coordination of people and resources
- Strong motivational leadership with excellent team building skills
- Ability to negotiate the best arrangements, prices, and conditions.
- Experience with MS Office suite, MPulse, or other CMMS
- Knowledge of local and provincial laws regarding Alberta Labour Standards; WCB; FOIP; OH&S Codes; City of Edmonton Parking & Signage By-Laws; Alberta Criminal Code; etc.
