Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role :

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Full-time Director, Equipment & Automation to join our dynamic Supply Chain division. This is a critical leadership role that ensures the operational readiness and technological advancement of the infrastructure that supports our mission as Canada’s Biological Lifeline.

As Director, you’ll lead the teams responsible for equipment services, fleet management, and integrated supply chain business systems. You’ll play a central role in ensuring that the tools, vehicles, and technologies that power our supply chain are safe, efficient, and future-ready.

We’re looking for a strategic and hands-on leader with experience managing complex equipment and fleet programs, driving technology adoption, and leading cross-functional teams. A background in regulated environments, capital asset management, and supply chain systems (ideally SAP) will be strong assets.

This is a high-impact role that works closely with senior leadership and cross-divisional partners to ensure our infrastructure evolves in step with our operational and strategic goals.

Formula for success :

  1. Lead and align equipment, fleet, and technology operations with CBS’s strategic and operational priorities, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency across the board.
  2. Oversee the lifecycle of all equipment and vehicles — from specification and acquisition to maintenance and decommissioning — while managing vendor relationships and capital planning.
  3. Drive innovation by identifying and implementing emerging technologies and automation solutions that enhance supply chain performance and resilience in alignment with enterprise strategies.
  4. Guide the integrated supply chain systems team, ensuring technology solutions are optimized to support operational effectiveness and transformation initiatives.
  5. Champion cross-functional collaboration, working with process owners and operational teams to ensure readiness, engagement, and clear communication during change.
  6. Lead talent development within your teams, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  7. Represent the division in enterprise-wide initiatives, providing insights, performance reporting, and strategic input to support informed decision-making.

Desired Education and Skills :

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, or equivalent professional education and experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience, including experience in supervising professional and unionized staff, in quality management systems, process design, control and continuous improvement, and project management. Experience operating in a pharmaceutical, medical device or biologic manufacturing environment is required.
  • Experience in a regulated environment (GMP manufacturing).
  • Demonstrated equipment and automated systems qualification expertise.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven effective interpersonal, facilitation and English language communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate cross-functional teams.
  • Sound organizational and time management skills.
