Job Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced EHS professional to lead their environmental, health, and safety initiatives. The successful candidate will develop and implement the EHS management system, ensuring the safety and well-being of associates and compliance with all applicable legislation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the EHS management system, ensuring the safety and well-being of associates and compliance with all applicable legislation.
- Build long-term, prioritized plans that align with organizational goals, ensuring compliance and safety throughout operations.
- Create a culture of safety, partnering with operations teams for operational excellence.
- Lead the implementation, administration, and reporting of EHS goals and objectives.
- Analyze EHS trends and organizational data to manage risks and effectiveness of EHS programs.
Environmental Responsibilities
- Own the environmental compliance and reporting for multiple industrial manufacturing operations (air emissions, noise, water management, waste management, etc.).
Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Create and implement policies and procedures that integrate legislative compliance and best practices, addressing gaps within the EHS framework.
- Ensure safety regulations and safe work practices are adhered to, compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Oversee or investigate work-related accidents/incidents and reports in a timely manner.
- Maintain and file all permits, reporting related to EHS.
- Manage solid/liquid waste, universal waste, spill prevention, control plans, and corrective actions as necessary.
- Manage or oversee Worker’s Compensation claims and return to work process.
- Audit job safety analysis and confined space permits on an ongoing basis.
- Oversee or deliver the EHS program components, such as safety meetings, onboarding, training, and toolbox talks.
- Maintain data, prepare reports, documentation on all accidents, incidents, and injuries.
- Effectively and efficiently utilize the EHS management software system; build out the system in collaboration with EHS Directors in the US and Canada.
- Develop, facilitate, and maintain all required training material and training databases for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage industrial hygiene standards.
- Organize and maintain the Material Safety Data Sheet library for all controlled products.
People Management
- Provide exceptional leadership and supervision to the EHS team.
- Define roles, work plans, and priorities. Coach on performance and for development.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with the operations teams to more effectively support and influence a culture of safety.
- Maintain good professional relationships with external associations, regulatory bodies, and government agencies.
- Collaborate with consultants and vendors to resolve challenges and drive continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in a related field – environment, safety, business.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification.
- 7+ years of experience in progressively more complex leadership EHS roles; preference for industrial manufacturing and/or construction field services.
- Solid knowledge of environmental regulations and the programs, monitoring, reporting required to manage in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of waste regulations on provincial and federal levels.
- Working knowledge of relevant OSHA regulations.
- Ability to deal with both the strategic EHS program-building activities as well as provide hands-on EHS support.
- Ability to build EHS programs: assess gaps and address systematic approaches.
- Ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
- Experience interacting with regulatory stakeholders.
- Ability to facilitate engaging and effective training sessions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to be creative.
- Ability to prioritize, influence, and manage multiple projects, meeting deadlines.
- Strong sense of urgency.
- Strong technology skills, MS Office suite, SMS platform, ability to learn and utilize new software to be effective and efficient.

- Ability to manage and travel to multiple locations within Southwestern Ontario (Sarnia, London, Kitchener, GTA). Must be willing and able to travel within Canada and the US on occasion.
