Position & Team Overview
FinDev Canada is seeking a visionary Director of Enterprise Risk Management to help shape and elevate our risk management strategy. This is a unique opportunity to build upon and design a resilient, forward-thinking risk management infrastructure that supports agility and sound risk management practices in a fast-paced, impact-driven organization. A key part of this role will be to deliver on specific risk management initiatives, enhance our risk frameworks and policy instruments, and support the design and integration of clear risk processes and controls.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Oversee and mature the enterprise risk management function across all pillars of risks, including strategic, financial, operational, and compliance.
- Develop and monitor enterprise risk frameworks, policies, reports, and KRIs.
- Oversee the Risk Appetite framework, including metrics definition, measurement, monitoring and reporting on current and emerging risks.
- Develop and oversee risk processes, controls, and testing to ensure effective monitoring, management, and responses to current and emerging enterprise risks.
- Support adherence to sound risk governance under the 3LD model, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities.
- Work cross-functionally to deliver risk-based solutions and provide specialized advice to Risk Owners and all staff.
- Lead the enterprise risk reporting to the Executive Risk Management Committee and to the Board of Directors.
- Lead team meetings and support the CRO in chairing risk committee meetings, promoting risk awareness and informed decision-making.
- Lead key risk initiatives, projects, and continuous improvements.
- Champion a strong risk culture across the organization.
What We’re Looking For
Must-haves
- Educational Background : Undergraduate Degree in business or related field.
- Experience :
- A minimum of 15 years of related work experience in the financial services industry including at least 5 years directly in risk management or governance functions.
- 5 or more years of experience leading teams (formal leadership roles)
- Language Proficiency : Bilingual in both official languages (French and English)
- Advanced knowledge of policies, procedures, practices used in the financial services industry to ensure a well governed risk management function.
- Experience in interpreting trends in the financial services and regulatory environments to make practical changes to the risk function in support of the enterprise strategy.
- Excellent leadership skills demonstrated through providing sound guidance and coaching to other leaders, positively influencing organizational culture, and high integrity.
- Exceptional relationship building skills, and the ability to hold others accountable without direct authority.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex subject matter clearly at all levels of the organization up to the Board.
- Ability to present ideas in a clear, succinct and organized manner.
- Ability to proactively identify creative solutions for taking on and managing risk that support the enterprise strategy and enable the business to develop differentiated value propositions.
- A growth mindset, and the ability to build, sustain and improve enterprise risk practices.

- Educational Background : Master’s degree in business admin, risk management or related field.
- Professional Certifications: Certified Risk Mgmt. Professional (CRMP), Certification in Risk Mgmt. Assurance (CRMA), or other relevant credentials
