Scotiabank is hiring a Director of Insurance Engineering in Toronto, Canada. You will lead delivery across Insurance Engineering platforms, partner with business and technology teams, and drive strategy-to-implementation execution with a focus on quality, stability, and client experience.

You will build a high-performance team, champion secure and compliant operations, and advance DevOps practices across multi-million dollar portfolios while aligning with risk and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• University degree in Computer Engineering / Applied Science / Technology, or relevant work experience.
• 10+ years of Software Engineering experience.
• 5+ years of progressively increasing leadership experience in IT management, data, platform, and system management.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for delivery across Canadian Banking Products Engineering platforms with stability, scalability and high performance.
• Defines and delivers robust technical solutions that support best-in-class client experiences.
• Leads end-to-end delivery of engineering initiatives including planning, QA, deployment and ongoing support for all releases.
• Fosters a client-focused engineering culture, prioritising value delivery, customer experience and secure, compliant operation of digital systems.
• Promotes DevOps, CI/CD, observability, test automation and incident response best practices.
• Builds and retains a high-performance, inclusive engineering team and encourages continuous learning and innovation.

The Director, Insurance Engineering is responsible for the engineering execution and delivery of technology solutions that support the Bank’s platforms. This role ensures the timely delivery, quality, resiliency, and operational excellence of platforms that support applications, processes and Client journeys for the Insurance Canada. The Director partners closely with business and product leads to align on requirements and priorities, delivering technical solutions that support strategic business outcomes. Reporting to the Senior Director, this role plays a key part in translating vision into executable plans and ensuring those plans are delivered with a high level of quality, stability, and stakeholder alignment.

• Responsible for delivery across Canadian Banking Products Engineering platforms in alignment with strategic priorities, while maintaining stability, scalability, and high performance of critical applications.
• Partners with our business and technology partners to define and deliver robust technical solutions that support a best-in-class Client experiences
• Executes on the strategic roadmap, ensuring seamless transition from strategy to technical implementation, and fostering continuous feedback loops between engineering and the business.
• Leads and manages end-to-end delivery of engineering initiatives, ensuring proper planning, execution, QA, deployment, and ongoing support for all releases.
• Champions a client-focused engineering culture across the team, prioritizing value delivery, customer experience, and the secure, compliant operation of client-facing digital systems.
• Drives engineering excellence by promoting best practices in coding, architecture, DevOps, CI/CD, observability, test automation, and incident response.
• Builds a high-performance team, attracting, developing, and retaining top engineering talent. Fosters an inclusive and collaborative environment where continuous learning and innovation are encouraged.
• Drives platform resiliency and operational readiness, ensuring application reliability through comprehensive monitoring, proactive issue identification, and thorough root cause analysis for incidents.
• Understands heterogeneous infrastructure technologies, business drivers, emerging technology trends related to customer information systems – e.g. Legacy Technologies as well as Cloud, API integration, and leading transformational change incorporating modern technologies.
• Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams
• Manages operating budgets and multi million dollar project budgets while effectively navigating financial constraints to ensure cost efficiency.
• Creates an environment in which team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
