Job description

Air-tek is a Canadian-based software company with a powerful suite of unique products that have already achieved a significant share of a huge global market. The product market fit is excellent, and customers are lining up to buy. Although our global customers know us, we intentionally operate in stealth mode during this growth phase.

Our diverse team shares a collective passion for solving complex problems with a drive to innovate and a desire to create the passenger-centric travel industry. Based in Toronto, our inclusive culture is built on trust, collaboration, delivering a great product, and continuous personal development. We love what we do, and we support the team around us.

As the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading our Integrations Development, Platform, and TechOps teams. You are a hands-on leader who pays attention to details, is obsessed with building amazing teams, has outstanding communication skills, and a bias for action. The complexity that comes with building and integrating enterprise software is well understood, and you excel at partnering with colleagues across development, product, and service delivery organizations to understand customer needs and prioritize action. You have experience scaling engineering teams and can anticipate and avoid common pitfalls associated with hyper-growth based on your prior experience.

Responsibilities:
  1. Communication & Collaboration: A willing and capable partner across engineering, product management, services, and leadership; tackling issues and opportunities as they arise. Skilled at delivering complex messages with empathy, skill, and clarity.
  2. Strategic Planning & Execution: Adept at translating strategic direction into clear priorities for engineering teams.
  3. Leadership and Talent Development: Build a diverse, highly skilled team capable of meeting current and future technological challenges. Provide feedback, training, coaching, career development, and performance management to enhance team capabilities.
  4. Software Development: Lead engineering teams in developing scalable, reliable, and secure software solutions. Inspire and direct teams towards technical excellence.
  5. Architecture: Develop a deep understanding of technical architecture and business requirements to identify capacity constraints and risks, collaborating with stakeholders to address them.
  6. Quality: Ensure high-quality, reliable products that meet customer expectations. Enable developers with the right tools, processes, and testing practices.
Skills & Experience:
  • 10+ years in software engineering development, with at least 5 years in management/leadership roles.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively in a high-growth, scale-up organization supporting B2B and B2B2C customers in a cloud environment.
  • Expertise in enterprise software development, including high-availability systems, microservices, and full-stack technologies.
  • Deep technical understanding of all major aspects of software development.
  • Airline industry experience is a plus but not required.
  • Proficiency with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools like Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience with our tech stack: React, Vue.js, TypeScript, Node.js, C# / .NET Core, MongoDB, Docker is desirable.
