Job description

Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site, with a strong preference for Ottawa - 1800 Alta Vista Drive OR Toronto - 67 College Street. The role involves a mixture of on-site and off-site work to meet operational needs, with employees currently expected to have at least 40% in-person presence, subject to change based on circumstances.

About the Role

We are seeking a Director, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to join our Inclusion, Sustainability and Engagement team. This team aims to position Canadian Blood Services as a leader in inclusion, sustainability, and engagement, aligning with our social impact and purpose.

The successful candidate will oversee all activities aimed at fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse organizational culture. Responsibilities include program management, education, partnership development, strategic advice, and leading initiatives to implement the organization's DEI Strategy and Reconciliation Action Plan. The role involves collaboration across the organization to identify and eliminate systemic barriers and promote a culture of inclusion and equity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement projects and strategies to promote an inclusive and equitable organizational culture.
  • Embed DEI and indigenization as core organizational values.
  • Advise senior leadership on equity-seeking strategies and initiatives.
  • Lead and participate in DEI initiatives, working groups, and community engagement activities.
  • Promote the organization’s DEI and reconciliation efforts externally and internally.
  • Develop metrics and reporting to measure DEI program success.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends and best practices in DEI.
  • Build and lead a team supporting DEI and reconciliation initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • University degree in social sciences, cultural studies, or related fields; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in policy development, strategy, and large-scale change within DEI.
  • Deep knowledge of anti-oppression, equity, diversity, anti-racism, accessibility, and inclusion frameworks.
  • Experience managing large projects and initiatives in complex organizations.
  • Lived experience related to equity and human rights issues is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets and strategic plans.
