Your focus will be on ensuring robust liquidity buffers aligned with regulatory requirements, while fostering regional alignment on liquidity management principles.

What is the opportunity?

The Group Risk Management Balance Sheet & Liquidity Risk (GRM-BSLR) team serves as the second line of defense for enterprise-wide balance sheet and liquidity risk management. Within GRM-BSLR, the Enterprise Liquidity team provides oversight and support to ensure consistent identification, measurement, and management of liquidity risks across the organization.

As Director and Deputy Head, Global Liquidity Risk, you will act as a strategic partner to the Global Head of Liquidity Risk, driving global oversight of RBC’s liquidity risk practices. Your focus will be on ensuring robust liquidity buffers aligned with regulatory requirements, while fostering regional alignment on liquidity management principles.

What will you do?

  • Serve as a principal subject matter expert, providing insights on liquidity risk and its implications for funding and Funds Transfer Pricing to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regions to align liquidity principles across the enterprise, ensuring compliance with global and regional regulatory standards.
  • Lead the development and calibration of the firm’s liquidity risk appetite, integrating qualitative and quantitative insights to inform strategic decisions.
  • Challenge and review liquidity contingent buffer management practices from the first line, including sizing, investment criteria, monetization, and operational readiness.
  • Spearhead the design and execution of enterprise-wide liquidity tabletop exercises, while supporting similar initiatives at the regional level.
  • Represent the firm in regulatory dialogues with external bodies (e.g., OSFI, CBA, FED, PRA), ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
  • Build and enhance balance sheet capabilities to identify risk drivers and improve decision-making across the organization.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Education: Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MA, MSc in Finance, Economics, or a related field).
  • Experience: 10–15 years of experience in financial risk management, with a focus on Treasury and liquidity management in a large banking institution.
  • Strategic thinker with the expertise to bridge enterprise-wide liquidity risk management with regulatory and internal expectations, while fostering alignment across regions.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, banking regulations, and the balance sheet structure of a global bank.
  • Strong written, verbal, and time management skills to navigate high-pressure environments effectively.

Nice-to-have

  • Certifications: CFA, FRM, CPA, or CA designations.
  • Proven experience working with global regulators (preferably OSFI and the Federal Reserve) and extensive experience working with U.S. regulators is highly desirable.
  • Track record of leading complex risk initiatives and fostering cross-functional collaboration, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to challenge first-line practices and articulate second-line perspectives with clarity and confidence.
