The Director/Principal – Data Engineer, Wealth Management is responsible for leading delivery teams that collaborate with cross-functional development teams and business stakeholders. The role involves defining and implementing business strategies, product roadmaps, service offerings, and new features. It requires a combination of strategic oversight and hands-on technical expertise, with a focus on the financial services sector and trends in Wealth and Asset Management.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
  • Own end-to-end delivery of data engineering use cases, working closely with business and technology stakeholders.
  • Contribute to Data Engineering and Data Architecture strategy, medallion data hub architecture, and roadmap development.
  • Demonstrate expertise with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) data services and Databricks.
  • Provide thought leadership on emerging technologies and architecture standards, aligning with Scotiabank's frameworks and best practices.
  • Foster a data-first culture across the enterprise to enhance data-driven decision-making.
  • Manage dependencies across projects, mitigate risks, and facilitate communication, leading projects in an agile environment.
  • Engage with executives and project teams to ensure scope, budget, and timeline adherence, communicating analytic insights effectively.
  • Balance collaboration with project management discipline, guiding teams through complex projects.
  • Work in an agile manner to onboard data, define ETL processes, and maintain data documentation and lineage.
  • Lead a team of data engineers and full-stack developers.
  • Develop strong stakeholder management, influencing, and negotiation skills, effective up to senior executive levels.
  • Handle management tasks including incident response, vendor management, infrastructure, service resiliency, and ownership.
  • Engage with diverse projects, from large and complex to simple, across various business functions.
Do you have the skills to succeed? We'd love to hear from you if you have:
  • Minimum 10+ years in a data engineering-focused role.
  • Proven technical leadership in mentoring engineering teams.
  • Expertise in GCP data services such as DataProc, Dataflow, BigQuery, CloudSQL, CloudSpanner, and third-party tools like Spark, DBT, Kafka, and Cloud Functions.
  • Experience with data streaming technologies like Kafka and Spark Streaming.
  • Strong programming and query skills with tools like Python, Java, PowerBI, etc.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to leverage data for insights and decisions.
  • Solid architecture knowledge, especially in cloud infrastructure solutions.
