What is the opportunity?

The Director, Credit Structures (DCS) is a specialized role within RBC Private Banking, providing dedicated support in the underwriting of new credit opportunities. Specifically, you will be responsible for providing support to the private banking team in the underwriting of some of our largest and most complex transactions and customers. In this role, you will work directly with our Very High Net Worth customers in developing appropriate credit structures, obtaining risk management approval, and managing loan closing.

Job Description

The Director, Credit Structures (DCS) is a specialized role within RBC Private Banking, providing dedicated support in the underwriting of new credit opportunities. Specifically, you will be responsible for providing support to the private banking team in the underwriting of some of our largest and most complex transactions and customers. In this role, you will work directly with our Very High Net Worth customers in developing appropriate credit structures, obtaining risk management approval, and managing loan closing.

What will you do?
  • Discovery and underwriting of new lending opportunities, including larger, complex transactions, holding/investment companies, borrowers with complex personal/business structures, securities, portfolio analysis, tax/trust complexity.
  • Structure competitively tailored credit solutions larger and more complex than those customary in Private Banking.
  • Partner with Private Bankers to provide proactive credit advice, supporting an exceptional Private Banking credit experience.
  • Deepen client relationships through ongoing management of wholesale credit files.
  • Leverage tools and resources related to lending practices and products to support advice and recommendations, including renewals.
  • Work with the Associate Director, Credit Structures, for renewals and loan document signing activities.
  • Establish credibility and build positive relationships with Group Risk Management by presenting comprehensive, high-quality credit requests.
  • Leverage expertise from Tax, Legal, Commercial Markets, Capital Markets, and National Office to enhance credit structuring capabilities.
  • Maintain a list of high potential complex credit opportunities and engage in proactive marketing strategies.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
  • University graduate with business-related knowledge (preferred: CFA or MBA).
  • Strong lending experience, including formulating creative lending solutions and thorough underwriting.
  • Experience in business/commercial markets, lending, account management, or risk management.
  • Strong client focus, negotiating skills, ability to manage tight timelines, results-oriented, team player, self-motivated, excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to partner with other areas of the bank (Risk Management, Business Banking, Capital Markets, Insurance).
  • Working knowledge of Synergy and Newton platforms.
Nice-to-have
  • Familiarity with secured lending structures and documentation.
  • Strong business development skills.
  • Knowledge of securities.
  • Financial modeling skills in Excel.
